Resume Question

I am helping a friend revamp her resume- and I was wondering at what point do you take the "Activities" area of your resume off? I mean, she is 26 years old- I am sure that her prospective employers could not be interested in what sports team she was on in college, and the fact that she was the college newspaper editor- or am I wrong? She is looking for a career in retail- so these cant be that important, right?

With 4-5 years of professional experience, she probably has enough "meat" on her resume to remove her collegiate activities.

If she is careful with how she phrases things, she may be able to tie in her athletics experience in her cover letter - especially since many employers really like hiring athletes for their competitive nature, strong work ethic, teamwork and communication skills. She should link that experience to her current employment as well, though.

Activities are usually included for recent college graduates since they often don't have full time work experience, but it allows them to demonstrate that they have the skills necessary to succeed in the workplace because of leadership roles/team work skills developed in various organizations.
