Let's talk Seaford!
Dh grew up in massapequa park ---- myself in bellmore.. we saw a house that we really liked in Seaford today - it was a great price and 85% of what we want - and the other 15% would be easy to make...
but we are really unfamiliar with the area - the house is in school district #6 and is just south of sunrise highway -- off of seaford ave...
the house was also very reasonably priced - im nervous that maybe it is in a secret bad section or something... i need to do some more research on it...
but any feedbak, positives, negatives, or in general of the area would be great!

Re: Let's talk Seaford!
I grew up in Massapequa & live in Massapequa Park....there is plenty in that area.....train, shopping, restuarants, movies, the schools are close, the parkway is pretty close....it's really borderline Massapequa....so you are near EVERYTHING!!

Seaford school district is AWSOME from what I heard. I knew 2 girls that graduated from there and they loved going to school there.
check greatschools.net for state testing info and community dynamics

We live in Seaford but north of Sunrise. It is a fine village. I would just check to make sure there is no flooding in your area.

Re: Let's talk Seaford!
for some reason I found Seaford to be a bit less expensive than the immediate surrounding towns. I've heard mixed reviews on the SD recently - budget issues and no contract I think? But overall it seems like a very tight close knit town.

Re: Let's talk Seaford!
We went to see THIS HOUSE in Seaford when we first started looking. It just dropped $16k. It's been empty for a while. It was very nice. The kitchen would eventually need to be updated and the bedrooms were a little on the small side, but it was a very nice home. I'm sure you could get a great deal on it.

Seaford is a great area. It's sandwiched between Massapequa and Wantagh - and all three are good school districts.

I live in Seaford- North of Sunrise also- and I love it here. My in-laws live in that area that you saw a house in- just South of Sunrise, right off of Seaford Ave. They have lived there for 28 years and love it. DH grew up there and went to Seaford schools- and he is just fine!! Let me know if you have any questions about the area!

Re: Let's talk Seaford!
School district has no conrtact. Board is not negotiating in good faith... it's now going to a mediator since we've been negotiating since January 06. It's always been difficult to get budgets passed in Seaford... many years they have passed with 8, 14, 20 votes... not good. And that's even during the economic boom years of the 90's.
While the houses may be a bit cheaper, the taxes tend to be often higher for the same house/property as Wantagh and Massapequa because Seaford has less commercial real estate.
Yes, it definitely has a small town feel which can be good and bad, depending upon what you want. Very convenient to train and major parkways/SOB, shopping.

Re: Let's talk Seaford!
Seaford tends to have higher taxes do to less commercial businesses. as for the school, check out the sperling school reports, visit the school the kids will go to a few minutes prior to bus time. i have friends on seaford ave. i visit the 7-11 on sunrise often, friends have no complaints except traffic by the church/nursery school
