Need Quick Help
Our house is quickly being taken over by camel crickets. They gross me the hell out. It was fine when they were just in the basement, but now they are migrating to our living areas.
There's 2 in our bedroom right now (not to mention the 10 in our basement) and we can't figure out how to get rid of them. They jump very quickly.
Any suggestions??? My skin is crawling right now!

Re: Need Quick Help
Oh yeah...my parents had them. They eat cardboard and love a damp basement.
I found this on the web:
Sanitation is the most important means of eliminating nuisance crickets. Keep all areas in and around buildings free of moisture, dense vegetation and weeds (1 foot band next to foundation). Mow lawns, cut weeds, and clean up garbage collection areas. Remove harborage sites such as piles of bricks, stones, rotting wood and other debris. Caulk and seal all cracks and crevices, especially near the ground level at basement windows and doorways. When the structure is brick and weep holes are present STUF - FIT Access Control is the best product for excluding all crawling pest including rodents.
Make sure that all windows and doors are tight-fitting with proper screening in place. Exclusion is an important factor as well as light discipline. Avoid bright mercury vapor lights in entryways and along structure perimeters since crickets will be attracted from far distances. Convert to sodium vapor yellow lights (less attractive to insects) instead of white, neon or mercury vapor lights.
Never store firewood next to the house foundation. Raise garbage cans off the ground if practical. Trash and dumpsters should be placed as far from the building as possible. Crickets are attracted to food in these areas. Crickets may be troublesome at trash dumps, grassy roadsides, pasture fields and wooded areas (breeding sites) before entering structures. Crickets indoors can be captured on insect traps
Also this...
Recommended products and treatments for crickets are DEMON WP or SUSPEND
Spray the Demon WP or Suspend on all entry points, doors, windows, plumbing under the sinks, washer and dryer connections, baseboards and garage and basement areas. ..along the baseboards. Both of these products are odorless and last 3 months...considered a long term residual insecticide.

Re: Need Quick Help
My friend has them in her house too. They're also called cave crickets. She calls exterminators regularly & battles them with a broom.

Re: Need Quick Help
we had them in a house we rented - they are fast little suckers - they jump and move pretty quickly. Get an exterminator in there asap and they will nail those bad boys in no time!

Re: Need Quick Help
We have them a lot too, in our lower level which we aren't using right now (a hi-ranch). When I go down to do laundry, thier poops are all over the top of my washing machine
DH bought glue traps in HD and they really work on catching them. I think now that the colder weather is coming in, you will see less of them. I hope.

We used these glue traps as well... they get stuck on the traps, it's disgusting, but nothing compared to the scary things jumping at you!

Re: Need Quick Help
we had them in the basement and possibly still do, don't know grossed out to look. i was living down there and couldn't sleep. moved out of there and they followed me, so i closed all wholes. my parents put up glue traps and they ended up on there. they are gross and jump too fast to catch them. i spray bug spray at them for minutes before they would die.
