what shoud i expect at my first sono?

I am going thursday for my first sono. I already got the "great" news that it will probobly be an internal my sil told me that.Also she said not to be crazy if the heart beat is not visible yet its soo early.. is this true?

Also how do you figure out how far along you are? Is it form the day of your last Af? If thats the case mine was 7/11 so i guess i am about 5 weeks along?

At my very first sono I didn't see anything really. I was 5 ½ weeks. But at my second (8½) I saw the heartbeat. Yes, it will be an internal. For me they all have been internals, except for the triple screen ( i had both). I go tomorrow I hope I have officilly graduated to externals!

I have been warned not to get my hopes up too much when I have my first sono, because often if you are at 6 weeks or less you aren't able to see the heartbeat that soon... its nothing to worry about, perfectly normal from what I've read.. but I know that its gotta be disappointing nonetheless

BY the time I go to my 1st appointment I will be anywhere from 6-8 weeks along so I'm still hopeful that I might be able to see my little bean's heartbeat!

PS: Using the calculator on Babycenter.com, if your cycles are regular (28 days) and your last menstrual cycle was 7/11 .. that would put you at about 5 weeks... due on April 17, 2006

I was 6 weeks 4 days and saw nothing- I was so disappointed.

I went back at 7 wks 4 days and there it was! So don't get too upset at first if you don't see anything!

WIth my first pg, i was 5 weeks, 4 days at my first sono. All we saw was the sac and it wasn't internal. Unfortunately, we didnt make it to the 8-9 week to see the heartbeat but I guess I am lucky to have a pic
