Cologne (Koln), Germany
I am going for business in October - this will be my third time there, and I hope to FINALLY have some time to see something.
Has anyone been? Any suggestions? I will be working most of the time, but perhaps a favorite place for dinner, or a must-see?
TIA...

I was in Munich for Oktoberfest in October - what days are you going? There's got to be some type of Oktoberfest celebration at the time you're going to be there. However if you're travelling alone I wouldn't suggest going to any of those events by yourself. Maybe call a travel agent to see if they have any events like that at the time you're going.

Re: Cologne (Koln), Germany
i studied abroad in cologne for a semester. now this was nine years ago, so i don't have any restaurants, but you definitely have to see the kolner dom (if you haven't already) that's the huge church in the center of town. you should also take a trip down Hohe Strasse for the best shopping. it's a pedestrian only street in the general vicinity of the dom. if you have time for a museum i highly recommend the ludwig or the schokolade (chocolate) museums. a rhein river cruise would probably be beautiful in october. lastly drink a kolsch (the local beer). if i'm remembering correctly cologne does not have a large oktoberfest, if they have one at all, but i could be wrong about that. have a great time!!

Re: Cologne (Koln), Germany
Thank you ladies -- I have seen the Dome and the Street for shopping (bought some hummels) but have not been inside the Dome, nor taken the Rhine River Cruise....I will definitely do both this time!!
And no, no Oktoberfest.... unfortunately. But we usually hit some of the best restaurants in town, when I am with clients, and we drink the local beer in 2s!!
Now I am lookng into going to Sarajevo from there - my brother is living there - just for the weekend, but it seems to be too little time and too much time flying. Maybe I will meet him in Vienna, not sure yet.
Anyway thank you both for your suggestions!! I will def. follow them! (Although I am on WW and should not go near the chocolate!! LOL)

if you plan on going to austria to meet him, i'd recommend salzburg over vienna. much prettier town, smaller, cleaner and more of that alpine feeling. if you like that sort of thing. to me vienna was just another big city, but salzburg was a gorgeous little retreat. have fun!
