3 day transfer vs. 5 day transfer
Why do they do some transfers within 3 days and some they wait 5 days?

Re: 3 day transfer vs. 5 day transfer
i had a 5 day transfer because i had pgd (preimplantation genetic diagnosis) done. they had to wait until the embryos were a certain number of cells before they could test them.
i think there are other reasons why people wait 5 days, but that was the reason for me.
good luck-tomorrow's the big day (well, the first big day)!!!!

Re: 3 day transfer vs. 5 day transfer
They will wait 5 days for 2 main reasons (along with Lisa's): 1. The cells have not developed enough and they want to give them more time 2. You have more than 2 or 3 embryos that are at the same size and they want to weed out the one(s) that may not be as likely to develop.
I am sure there are other reasons too but these are the ones I am familiar with.

Re: 3 day transfer vs. 5 day transfer
Many doctors believe that blastocysts (5 day transfers) are more likely to implant than embryos (3 day transfers).
Therefore they can put back fewer blastocysts and have the same success rates as if they put a larger number of embryos. Thus, reducing the risk of multiples.

Re: 3 day transfer vs. 5 day transfer
leighla is right, but I know my own RE only does 5dt when there are enough embryos to be able to risk losing some along the way. Some dont make it the extra 2 days and he feels that those might have a better chance in the uterus than in the dish if you only have a few to start with.
