New here

Hi everyone....Former LIW bride here looking for some answers...or support....maybe not sure what i am looking for...DH had a Semen analysis done t his week....results weren't too good...his count is low---12 million....all else was normal. Dr recommended he see a urologist....So my question is anyone have a urologist (specializing in this) to recommend? Anyone have any encouraging stories of conceiving with a sperm count this low???? What is the urologist going to say? What are our options??? SHould we even continue trying naturally?? I am just so sad at the idea that we may never have a baby. :( THanks for listening and thanks in advance for any advice.

Re: New here

Hi and welcome (unfortunately)

PLease don;t start thinking you may never have a baby...imo (which is limited) MF (male factor, which they call it) is the easier to address that some female factors - IVF is great for MF

Good luck, and of course you should keep trying Chat Icon

Re: New here

Welcome, I hope your stay here is short.

You might want to do a search, I know DM24angel had a urologist they were very happy with.

But yes, MF is one of the easiest fertility problems and easily dealt with with IVF/ICSI. But is 12 million really a low # when motility and morphology is good? I think you should consult an RE, I know they recommend IUI's as "cost-effective" for counts above 10 million.... so you are not too bad. My DH is less than 1 million after they weed out all the bad ones.Chat Icon

If male factor is going to be your only diagnosis, that is pretty easy to treat. I have heard good things about Dr. Gilbert in Manhasset and I had a friend see Dr. Sheynkin at StonyBrook and she was very happy with him. Good Luck and we all hope your stay here is a short one.Chat Icon

Re: New here

Hi guys,

Thanks for the kind words/ recommendations....I really appreciate it. I really hope everything turns out okay. I guess it's just hard to be optimistic right after receiving bad news....

I picked up a referral from my ob/gyn along with the test results...and I tried to call the urologist to make the apptment today and they were closed....i'll try again tomorrow...

again, i appreciate your warm thoughts and welcome. Chat Icon

Re: New here

Welcome. Don't worry it will happen for you. My DH sees a Urologist for his kidney stones - I don't know much about urologists and whether DH's specializes in sperm (?) But he is lovely his name is Dr. Harris and he is in Long Beach.

Good luck with everything

Hello-
WelcomeChat Icon
I remember reading somewhere that there are things that can be done to increase a sperm count. If I am not mistaken, there are vitamins and nutrients that can help.

Good luck &

Re: New here

I hate to say welcome cuz this is not a place you want to be, but as has been said, male fertility is as close to a good thing as you can get. There are a lot of solutions for you both. Hopefully, a good urologist will give you the answers you need and/or a good RE will get you PG!
Lot's of luck to you both!!!
