Today is Pearl Harbor Day

Sorry to bring people down during this holiday season, but I feel a need to remind people about today.
Recently I've taken responsibility in flying the USA flag outside our house. For years, (I hate to admit it ) we kept the flag flying day and night (with no spotlight) and in all kinds of weather. I knew better and was taught the proper flag etiquette growing up. I feel ashamed that I hadn't been displaying the flag correctly. Since the mid-summer I've been trying to fly it correctly.
For the past month, I've been reminding myslef to honor those who lost their lives 65 years ago, and display the flag at half-staff. Driving around this morning, I was dissapointed at the lack of flags at half-staff. Nearly all government buildings had it correctly, but I only saw one non-government building doing it. Today, I was initailly mad at places that didn't display the flag properly. But who am I to judge, when it's only been the last few months that I've accepted the responsiblity: if I own a flag and want to display it correctly, that there are etiquettes to be followed.
Instead what I realized is something deeper. Something that happened 65 years ago , is slowly being forgotten. I fear that the same thing may eventually happen with other days of rememberance and what it means to America (like September the 11th).
So please, today, remember those that lost their lives defending our country 65 years ago.

Its not a depressing day for everyone. It would have been DH's 13th anniversary with his first wife. I am extremely elated he got divorced...now he is my wonderful DH!
