Puppy dramas

OK just so we know we're not alone in puppyhood what has your dog done in puppyhood...

Diesel bit off all the knobs on my stereo, crashed through my glass coffee table (thankfully without a scratch on him), chewed my very expensive pair of sunglasses and pretty much destroyed the carpet...lets just say he had a very temperamental stomach... He was 2yrs old when we got him...he is now 6 and an amazing dog! love'em

Max 4 months old when we got him:
two weeks after he was home he was asleep on the floor in my bedroom with a gate up...I went to the bathroom and when I came out little white feathers was flying around....he managed to rip and roll around in my down comforter and had feathers everywhere...after I cried and cleaned everything up...he did it again (of course the dh told me it was my fault)
he has chewed a hole in the sheet rock,
dug a hole in my carpet, ate my digital camera, oh a the topper...ate a knee high stocking (within seconds) which caused projectile vomit throughout the house including on my bed and couch!
I can't wait until he gets a little older he's 18 months now but as much as a pain in the a** that he is he is my baby.

Re: Puppy dramas

Great idea! Puppy parenthood is hard. But, in spite of the challenges, the reward at the end -- a best friend and family member -- is one beyond what words can say.

Holden:
-when he was teething, chewed everything, and I mean everything
-When my brother house sat, he ate his sneakers
- ate the wires behind my hubby's computer -- just in the time DH went to the bathroom!
- ate the stuffing out of our bedspread
-for the first few weeks, he was nocturnal. Oh, what a joy that was
-learned to go to the bathroom outside immediately then at 6 months, went through a month where he went under the dining room table constantly
-hoard Denver's toys under the bed and in his crate

Denver
-had -- and still has -- non stop energy. He wants to play 24-7. As a puppy, it was even worse -- he would wake us up to play!
-used to nibble on our fingers
-was a PIA to toilet train

Re: Puppy dramas

SO many things, but the first that comes to mind is when Loki was a puppy he actually ate through his metal cage. He took the bars in his mouth & bent them upward so he could escape. That one takes the cake I think.

Oh and Bruno "tunnelled" through his first bed like a hamster. We thought he got out & all of a sudden we see this tiny Chihuahua head pop out from inside his bed.

Re: Puppy dramas

In the midst of it all...

-Currently teething, has an affinity for wood moulding.

-Chewed my cable modem cable in about a second.

-Loves wood...banisters, chewed. Furniture, chewed. And of course, corner moulding on the bottom of the wall.

-Eats shoes, any kind. My old navy flip flops are full of puppy teeth marks.

-Ate bags to pick up his poopie with.

-Understands commands, chooses to ignore them. Unless he wants something (he's a smart little SOB).

-Eats my cat's poopie. Chat Icon We've been watching him like hawks now, and have avoided this recently.

-Thanks to july06bride, I thought of more...yup, he once took a poop inside his crate and rolled in it. All up in it. To the point that DH (I was at work) had to take apart the crate and clean every single part since there was poop on the "ceiling" of the crate, the sides, the holes, the rail. It was gross. He only uses the crate to sleep now.

There's so much more I'm sure I'm forgetting. But I love him so!!

Re: Puppy dramas

oh goodness the joys! : )

Boogie would poop in his crate....and roll around in it (that was fun!)

so we decided, maybe he needed more room-we left him in the bathroom-gated-pretty big size-thought we Puppy proofed it- WRONG- Came home (only a few hours later) to poop all over the walls-floor-everywhere you could imagine...and of course...he rolled in it again!

Well, we thought-lets give him a second chance-and did it again-we are so dumb-and of course-he did the same thing-

***lets just say, I was cleaning and disenfecting every day...and crying too cause It was so gross!

He would eat his poop- I was told to buy something called "Stop Eating Poop" or something like that.... and then he threw up...

He chewed on my wood table (but I didnt care too much since we were getting new ones that he couldnt chew)

he scratched the molding on one downstairs door-

You know what-it was rough- we made many mistakes ... but he grew out of some of these bad habits and we learned what to do and what not to do... we went to obedience school as well!

He is the best ever and the challenges made me crazy-but made me love him all the more knowing everything we went through and how great he is now!

I forgot- he would cry ALL night long- I would get up, coddle him, take him out, sing songs (lol) he would be okay... I would go back to bed, he would cry...this happened for about 2 full weeks... I was going to work like a zombie...and people asked what was going on...and I told them "new puppy" and I heard the Oooooohhh I understand ...

Re: Puppy dramas

well when we first got Sandy, we had her crated for a while (we lived in an apartment).....we decided to leave her out one day and see how she did.....

well......when Dh came home from work, Sandy had pretty much made a total mess of the apartment. SHe chewed on the walls, ripped the back of our NEW sofa, chewed up almost all of our CD's and DVD'd (when DH came home, she had a DVD still in her mouth Chat Icon

Dh was pretty ****** but I calmed him down, puppies will be puppies. She is good now and does not destroy anything. It was an eventful evening, to say the least Chat Icon

I agree....

Thanks to the others, I remember all the poop instances... eating it, rolling in it, OMGChat Icon The first day we ever left Denver, pre-Holden, was about 3 hours in the crate. I came home to a crying puppy and poop ALL OVER the entire crate... and my pup!

both of my dogs were over a year old when i adopted them, so technically not "puppies"... but since i can't resist talking about them i'll play. Chat Icon

i honestly can't thing of a single thing to say about sophie. even though she was a stray and clearly had not had a home (at least not for a while), she never once messed in the house. one time she got diarrhea in the middle of the night... we found it in the BATHTUB. she has never chewed a single item in our house. i sometimes wonder if she is a dog.

owen, on the other hand chews anything and everything! he has destroyed:
1. approximately 20 pairs of underwear
2. 3 pairs of shoes
3. 1 pair of shoelaces
4. 3 basal body thermometers
5. two cell phones
and much, much more Chat Icon gotta love him.

Re: Puppy dramas

Tiny is now 1 year and almost 2 months old. We got him at 5months, and he went to the bathroom all over the house for the first 3 weeks, because his last owner house trained him with wee wee pads that were all over the house.

He Ate the Sheetrock near the front door.

Ate the Carpet on the stair case near the front door, and Ate the carpet upstairs near our bedroom door.

He Loves to eat the Fake Christmas tree and try to jump up and play with the Ornaments. He must think they are little balls. We have to put them higher on the tree...so we have the bottom of the tree with no ornaments

He loves to destroy his beds. He is on his 5th one now. I once bought him a bed, and he was in his cage for 1 hour while I went out and he ripped the bed apart in that time.

The bed he has no is indestructable. I bought it on ebay from a woman that makes storng but comfortable beds for dogs.

He eats anything that is on the floor. He once ate a screw.

He loves to rip up Paper, Toilet Paper, napkins etc...

He ripped off and tried to eat all the tags on our throw pillows, the rugs, and the chairs in the dining room.

He used to eat the corner of the bottom of our micro fiber couch.

He has calmed down a lot over the months but he is still a little crazy dog. I dont care, I still love him.....He is my hairy son.

I forgot he has a foot fetish lol...He loves to eat Danielle's shoes, socks, and even when the socks are on her feet....lol.

Re: Puppy dramas

ok...

Jessi would eat the molding off the wall, pull up the kitchen floor, eat the rugs...and eat the couch.
Best thing we ever did for her was have her trained..She is 4 now and is the best dog.

Morgan is pretty good, just tends to have an occasional accident...we got her at 7 months and she is 10 months now, so hopefully this will stop soon.

Re: Puppy dramas

Boy i think I have lucked out with both my dogs during puppyhood after reading this post...

Rudy (we got him at five weeks)..
The worst thing he ever did was peed in the house and in his crate. Besides that.. the first night we brought him home he cried late into the night.. but that was really it...

Darlee (she is 9 months now, and we have had her for a month)... The first day we brought her home she peed in our co-op.. and that has been it...

I guess I should consider myself very lucky.. but we also keep them in their crate all day and when we are home we watch them the whole time to make sure they don't destroy anything.
