Anyone ever have this???
I had my 20 week ultrasound on Monday and Wednesday I got a call form thr dr saying that they saw 2 "markings" one on the heart and one on the bowel of the baby that may be a sign of down syndrome but they wont be able to tell unless I get an amnio. My QUAD (AFP) came back so normal that she doesnt think that this is true but the only way to be sure is to do the amnio. I anm having an amnio on Wednesday but I just wanted to see if any of you girls have ever had this happen to you. If the amnio comes back normal then the DR said these markings are nothing and they woulndt ever mention them to the pediatrician.
Im so scared and upset that I cant even think sstraight. I just want and need to know what is really going on. This waiting *****...

I know how scary it is to think something maybe wrong with your baby! It sounds as though the dr isn't too worried because of your AFP results, so try to stay positive and not stress!! Good luck!

My friend had that happen. I am not sure where her markings were but she did not have and AFP or amnio and her daughter was born perfectly fine. Try to relax I am sure everything will be just fine.

Try to relax... although I know it isn't easy, but the stress is not good for your baby. Good luck in the amnio and I'm sure everything is going to be fine

Re: Anyone ever have this???
try to relax and time will fly..they are just being acreful. My AFP came back SKY high with my 1st PG...I turned down the amnio and my daughter who I did lose, but was for different reasons had NO signs at all of anything.
The AFP and the "markings" are more often WRONG then right...so the odds are in your favor that nothing is wrong.

Re: Anyone ever have this???
I was talking to a friend about this the other day and her SIL's baby, and they saw something on the brain, heart and somewhere else. It all turned out to be nothing but shadows. I know it's hard try not to worry. Think positively, the worrying is not good for you and the baby. Cross that bridge if you need to but I am sure you won't

Re: Anyone ever have this???
Thank you so much girls for sort of putting my mind at ease. I really feel that our baby will be fine but I just need to know for sure and then go on from there. I know stress isnt good for the baby so I am trying not to think about any of this and proceed as normal.

Re: Anyone ever have this???
I went through something a little similar... at my 20 week sono the radiologist reported a "brain cyst" which can be indicative of Down's or Trisomy, so they sent me to a level 2 sono. By the time I got to the level 2 sono the cyst was gone, and when I looked at the radiologist report, apparently no one told me that he wasn't sure if it was really a cyst, or just a brain fold! Point being, with all this technology these days, sometimes it hurts us more than helps, and sends women into an unnecessary frenzy. If you're AFP results came back normal, you'lre most likely ok - just try to relax and make it through the next few days

Re: Anyone ever have this???
I had 2 markings as well at my level 2 sono, bright spot on the heart and dilated kidneys. I spoke with a specialist "on the record" who told me he was 99.9% positive I would have a healthy baby and did not recommend the amnio. "Off the record" I spoke with 3 other radiologists, who told me in all of their history of practicing medicine, markers alone were not indicative of Downs and again, as you have heard this before, technology is a blessing, but also a curse that puts so much undue stress on our bodies and minds during pregnancy.
I am sure you are fine. Stay strong. So much is in your favor. Focus on the positive.

Re: Anyone ever have this???
I have heard this so many times, and the outcome was fine. It happened to a friend of mine and the baby is just fine. Don't worry.
