Re: DH and I will no longer be shopping at The GAP
I got my $20 "customer appreciation card" today. It came with a generic letter thanking me for showing my concern over the quality of the merchandise. No mention of the idiot salesperson or manager. Whatever.

that's crazy! I never heard of a store not standing behind their merchandise. I have never returned anything washed, but I imagine that they WOULD take it back because the problem was only discovered after the washing.
I will be rethinking buying from the Gap in the future. thanks for the heads up.

I was reluctant to return something washed, but I really liked those sweats and wanted to wear them without seams ripping. Before I knew the quality, I even wanted to buy more colors.
My husband talked me into taking them back. He was trying to get me to be a little bit more assertive, as I had never done this before. He has worked retail and his company was all about customer service and the idea of customer service was drilled into his head, even by his business professors in school.

I'm shocked at the way they treated you. What you were trying to do was very reasonable.
It is too bad they don't treat "Manners 101" to their employees.
I would think they'd have somewhat of a "Customer is always right" motto. I know whenever I have worked in a customer service environment that is how we were to treat the customer.
