Greek Island Hopping

Anyone know the best way to get to Santorini from Athens?

I know there is plane and boat-- we are interested in the plane because it will just be so much faster.

What airlines do these trips-- where can I look for rates, etc.?

We went by plane and flew Olympic.

Boat is really the best way to see Santorini - the cliffs are very dramatic...but I liked the convenience of the quick flight.

The plane ticket was relatively cheap - I want to say under $100.

I think the boat ride is a few hours - I want to say 8...but it could be 4?? Sorry I can't remember - I looked into it briefly and decided against it b/c of the the time...

thanks-- 8 hours sounds like what I thought it was-- that is just too long for the amount of time we have. 4 hours may be better-- cause it's also an "activity"-- we shall see.

We flew either Olympic or Aegean. I can't remember. The flight was realtively short and pretty cheap. We booked our whole trip, including the inter-island flights, through a travel agent.

I've heard the waters can get pretty rough so I'm not sure I'd recommend taking a boat from Athens. I know someone who took a boat to Santorini (I can't remember where he took it from) and he said a lot of the passengers got sick b/c it was such a rough ride. We ended up taking a boat from Crete to Santorini (short ride), which was fine. However, if I had the option, I'd rather fly between the islands.
