Any suggestions...please???

I have three month old who will not sleep in her crib or cradle. Once she falls asleep I try to put her in and in a few minutes she is wide awake crying. I put her in the swing, she falls back to sleep. Again we go to the crib/cradle and wakes up again. I wind up having to leave her in the swing until I take her to bed with me, where (of course) she sleeps fine! Swaddling does not work, she squirms out of it. The sleep positioner did not help either. At what age should I let her just cry? I think three months is too early for that. I know that you are supposed to have them on a firm mattress, but would putting a blanket in there to make it softer be a bad thing? At this point I don't mind her in the bed, but eventually...

Re: Any suggestions...please???

It sounds to me like she likes to feel surrounded - she is "hugged" in her swing and when she sleeps with you but then not when she is in her crib. Have you tried putting her somewhat tilted on her side against the side of the cib? I do that with DD and it really helped her. I also bought a co-sleeped that goes in the bed with you so they are with you but in their own area. After a few nights I moved the entire co-sleeper into the bassinet and she was OK with that.

Another thing is One Step Ahead sells something that goes on the side of the crib and vibrates it. She may like the vibrating feeling. My DD's crib at daycare has a vibrate feature built in (they bought them at Target) and she loves it.

I think 3 mos old is too young to CIO...Maybe around 5 mos you can start.

Good luck, I hope you find something that works for you.

I noticed that both of my kids would fall asleep in those first few months if they were snuggled. We had a bouncy seat (made by Chicco) that went up on the sides. It made them feel snuggled. To mimic that at night, I would place them along the side of the bassinet. Another option is to roll up the baby blankets into a tubular shape & use some adhesive. I noticed they did this in the hospital's nursery.

I am having the same problem DD is 4 months old purchased a rocking bassint and now that she is getting to big for it I keep looking for other solution to get her to sleep in her crib. Let me know if anything works, you can be the one with sleepless nights trying all this ideas and then pass it along (just kidding )Chat Icon

I started Hannah in the crib the first day home, which of course was a nightmare at first because she's so little and the crib is so big. It took a few weeks for me to get her to sleep in it.

I also thought swaddling didn't work because she would always break out of it. Then I bought those Swaddleme's and she'd break out of those. Then I read how to properly swaddle with a receiving blanket in the book The Happiest Baby (key is to make sure it is really tight) and it worked!! Previously I was afraid to make it too tight, but my DH wasn't and I couldn't believe how happy she is now!! She sleeps pretty good for the most part (as long as her tummy doesn't hurt from gas)

I think you should try the swaddle again, I'll see if I can find the instructions from the book on line, in addition to what the other ladies said about making the crib more cozy.

Good luckChat Icon

Ryan sleeps in his crib at daycare propped up in the boppy sometimes. Of course this goes against everything we're told as parents but if you're in the same room w/them you can watch and make sure they haven't moved. He liked the snuggly feeling, so rolling up rec. blankets on either side also worked well for us. Good luck! Chat Icon
