I never did with my son, he had them in his crib until he was moved to his toddler bed at 22 months.
My daughter is almost 8 months and I have hers in.
I would take them out if they are using them to stand up and possibly get themselves out of the crib.

still have them in at 4 months and I think I will keep them. I feel he can move away if his mouth and nose were pressed against it. He generally likes the top of his head against it anyway and since I watch his breathing all night in the monitor I figure we're OK.
