disappointed - dr hanauer's office...
i am writing under a different name bc i know how many people love her and dont want to get attacked for my opinion...
i have been an patient at her office for about a year. while i think she is a great doctor, i am so unhappy with how her office is run. i am constantly having problems with them. for example: - when i had a mc, i had to see the RN both times i went in. the doctor had no time to see me. i didnt even get to speak to her on the phone. just the RN (who is def great, but still not my doctor). - more recently, i have been trying to get in touch with the dr since this monday. i am PG and have been having a medical problem (i dont want to get into details bc those of you who know me may figure out who i am). i understand she was on vaca last week and perhaps is backed up this week, but i have left 3 messages for her and have yet to hear back from her...or an RN (even though i told them the last time i called that i would speak to an RN since the dr is apparently so busy). - this afternoon, i have been trying to call her office for over 45 min and it is BUSY.
I know, I know. she is wonderful. AND when you do get to see her she spends so much time with you. But I dont know if I can stay a patient there anymore bc I feel like she is just too busy to really take care of all her patients.
Am I the only one that feels this way? I swear, I've put up with it this long bc I thought it was me and I must be crazy bc everyone RAVES about her, but honestly, I cant imagine that none of her other patients ever feel this way??

Re: disappointed - dr hanauer's office...
I have to say anytime I ever called her either she or one of the NPs got back right away. I also never got a busy signal for more than 2 mintues.
I am so sorry that you feel like you do not have a good support system there, and as much as I love her & the practice, it is important that YOU love her.

I think that it's your right and opinion and if you are not happy with her then you should def. look into finding another doctor.

While I do love her, I understand your point of you.
You need to do what is right for you if you don't feel you receive the service you are expecting/would hope for from her office and her.
Sorry this is not a good experience for you.

Re: disappointed - dr hanauer's office...
I would think that you would just need to get the medical records from Dr. H and have them transferred to your new doctor. I wouldn't imagine that it would be that difficult.
Good luck!

how difficult is it changing a doctor mid pregnancy? I think it is fine at your stage. I mean there is not a risk of you going into labour before you'd get an appointment with a new Dr.
I would let the practice know, once you have your records transferred, why you left though.
I hope you find someone you are comfortable with.

I am so sorry that you are not having a good experience with Dr. H's office. I too had a miscarriage- and I'm suprised to hear your experience compared to mine.
I have had some "issues" with conflicting procedures in the office- and definitely feel that everyone in the office should get on the same page in terms of what they tell patients, etc.
In the end, you have to do what you feel is right. My feeling is if you are not having a good experience, maybe you should check out who else is out there! You might even come back to Dr H, or maybe you'll be so much happier with another dr!

Re: disappointed - dr hanauer's office...
You will have to make sure the new dr is accepting your insurance.
They can forward your medical file to your new dr. per your request. They can't hold your medical file. They HAVE TO give the new dr. a copy. You may have to pay for it.

Not difficult at all...I did it. The most important thing is that you are comfortable with the care you are getting

It isn't as hard as you think. I did it. I simply explained to my 1st dr. why I was leaving and explained to the new dr. why I left. I have had nothing negative to report about my new dr/office. I am THRILLED that I went with my gut and changed offices.

I'm not sure they can charge you for it because while they are responsible for the records, you technically own them, they are YOUR records, you've paid for them already by being a patient. I demanded my own copy, copied those and gave them to my new dr. directly. I didn't trust my first dr. to send them over. I certainly wasn't charged.

Some dr. office do. I had to in the past. That why I said she "may" have to pay.

Re: disappointed - dr hanauer's office...
I had changed Dr.'s for the same reasons you are disappointed and probably very frustrated. I discussed it first w/ my Dr.- as everytime I had an appt. I had to wait an hour, and then another 45 mins. in the waiting room. I understand one or 2 emergencies, and would hope another woman would be patient if it were ever ME that had an emergency. However, that wasn't the case. They were just so busy. Plus, I am a high risk pregnancy and they sent me off to have a radiologist report in the beginning to make sure the pregnancy wasn't in my uteruine wall- "or you could DIE" was his exact words. OK- I'm totally scared/nervous and freaking out. come that Monday, I can to call the office for my results and the nurse said, "Oh, I forgot, I'll call there right now" When I told my Dr. my concerns and how I didn't feel that my care was important- his response is what sent me out the front door... he said, 'Well, you can find another Dr.". I didn't have to pay any fees- just write a letter to have my files transferred. I actually had them sent to me though, and I brought them to the new Dr. The girls are right- YOU have to be comfortable w/ your Dr. and you have to feel you're getting the best care for you and your baby!

Re: disappointed - dr hanauer's office...
You have to do whats right for you!
Having said that... I see Dr. Hanauer. I had a miscarriage and she was AMAZING. She sat with me for a long time. She always asks me if I have any questions for her.
A few months later I was having iregular periods she found out I had PCOS. She put me on Birth Control we sat in her office she told me how to use it (I know its easy you just take a pill but ) side effects...
At the end of my pack (when I was getting my period) I had SEVERE pains in my stomach So bad that I was doubled over in pain sobbing. My DH looked at me and said you are good with pain we are going to the hospital. We went to Winthrop and I had a horrid Dr. There who basically yelled at me for wasting her time cause I was just having my period.. I passed 2 clots the size of my fist (sorry tmi)
The next morning I called Dr. Hanauer and she called me back and was SHOCKED at the Dr. I had at the hospital (winthrop is still a great hospital they did amazing things for my baby cousin who was born at 1.75 pounds) She apologized over and over and talked to me about stuff.
I totally think she is awesome and answers any questions I have.
I have seen Kerry also and love her.

Re: disappointed - dr hanauer's office...
I use her too and I think you should switch if you don't feel comfortable. Please let her know your concerns before you leave because she may not be aware this is happening. I do think she has probably had a ton of new patients because she is so great and may not be able to handle them all because she is only one person.
You deserve to trust your doctor and the practice and nothing less.
I am so sorry you this is happening because she is a great dr.

Re: disappointed - dr hanauer's office...
WOW...Im sorry this is happening.
I called yesterday and she called me back within an hour of my call...she didnt get in till after 2pm yesterday...
Ar eyou sure that your making it known you want a CALL BACK?
I have called a lot due to my medical issues (pg related) and someone always calls me back that same day and pretty quick. And usually its the DR or The NP at least...never a nurse?
Have you told Dr. H about this? I told her I was upset with the office when she was on vacation and she was really upset by it and wanted to make sure I felt 100% ok now.
SO Im surprised by how you have been treated.
BUT....only you know how you want and expect to be treated and deserve to have them take you seriously .....
I would suggest talking to her directly..get nasty on phone....tell them you will HOLD ON for an hour...
If shes not receptive, then maybe yes finding a new dr. might be the best bet for you.
You have to be 100% comfortable IMO.

Under HIPPAA, you MAY have to pay up to .75 per page. But hopefully not.
Good luck!

Re: disappointed - dr hanauer's office...
75 cents per page is what I had to pay also. But since I had no complications, they only sent me my last 3 paps and sent them at no charge.
But if you need EVERY SINGLE FILE to be sent, its 75 cents per page. Which can get costly, but worth it if you get a great doctor in the end.
Good luck to you

Re: disappointed - dr hanauer's office...
I am TTC, and tried to get in touch with her and called and called and called for appointment and NO ONE returned my calls.I even called her service too. I was not impressed at all, it is no way to run a practice. I know a lot of girls on here use her, and I am sure she is a great doctor, but I think maybe her practice is getting too big. JMHO. I would switch.

This is worrying m because I defintely loved the way I was treated there and I have only been in there once. My last Ob/GYN was a total baby factory and they could have cared less about their patients... I thought I had found my new place

Re: disappointed - dr hanauer's office...
Don't feel like you have to hide! WHile I do not use her as my doctor, I can say that everyone has their own experiences, and you should not fear that people will get mad that you have had a bad experience. My first pediatrician was horrible with Ava nad he's very loved on here. I had no problem telling my side because there's always two sides to everything. I think it's probably time for you to find a new doctor.
