This sounds like so many of my students (and I teach 7th grade as well). IMHO I think something must really be going on at home. He's too scattered. Something is bugging him big time.
I would probably have his parent in to set up a meeting possibly leading to a CST. Maybe he needs to speak to the social worker ....Something seems really fishy especially not even getting involved with a party and not having a clue about the classes.
