Quick question about stray cats....

There are a few strays in my neighborhood because a lady feeds them a couple of doors down. I feel bad that it is so cold outside. Is there anything I can put in the bushes to make it more comfortable for them?

They actually have these warming rocks that you can buy (probably at petsmart). My friend uses them for the strays she feeds. I think she heats them in the microwave and then wraps a towel around them. They stay warm for a while.

I would put out a box, on its side, and maybe throw an old towel or blanket in there. The box would protect the kitties on 3 sides, so that they at least don't have to feel the brunt of the wind.

The hardest part is getting the kitties to go into the box!

We have a bunch of strays by me. I know they usally go under the sheds. My neibore has alittle wooden house for them.

Last year one of the momma cats got brave and was shacking up in my dog's house. She chased her out when the cat wouldn't play with her.

Here's the microwaveable disc I was talking about. It's expensive though, so I don't know if you'd want to buy it for these strays.

Re: Quick question about stray cats....

I will caution you against feeding the strays unless you intend to TNR. (Reggie can give you the best information on this). Strays will indeed multiply if they know that they have shelter & food available. We started with a "concerned neighbor" who fed 3 cats that live in the woods across from our house. n a year that increased to as high as 21 cats. They constantly fight with each other & run through our yard which riles up our dogs. They have even tried to come into the house. None of them are house cats, and none of them have eve had their shots. Some are quite sick as well.
