Has anyone ever bought a puppy from a breeder out of state?
How was your experience? I'm thinking of purchasing a puppy from a breeder in MO and I know there are scams out there and just want to make sure I dont get scammed! Any tips?

If you don't want to rescue, you can contact a rescue organization or a breed related website for info about reputable breeders.

I would worry about MO becuase of the tremendous amount of PuppyMills in that area.
One of the biggest things to look for are things like "We ALWAYS have puppies" or "We have many breeds." Those are sure-fire red flags. Also if they breed "Designer Dogs" or "Tea Cups" these are also big 'ol red flags. (no offense to anyone who has these types of dogs, but they are not AKC recognized & therefore cannot be a properly regulared breeder).
If they say they are not AKC, but CKC or another "KENNEL CLUB" I'd also be weary.

Don't buy while others die. Adopt a shelter pet today.

I would be very concerned that I was buying from a byb or a puppymill. No, I would not purchase a puppy from a breeder in MO.

Oh, I've read about breeders who use a few different names. I saw a website where someone explained all the health problems her puppy had, and she listed all the business names that she learned that the breeder has used.

MO is where i got Tinky... turns out now i know better than most MO breeders are puppymills and backyard breeders....
can you post the link to their site or fm me it? a few of us can tell from it if its a bad breeder. chances are that it is thogh, sorry

We haver never purchased a puppy from a breeder, so Im not sure if this was legit....

APR is not a true regulatory kennel club like AKC. They are most likely a BRB or a Mill.

I got Boogie from MO. I love him to death and he is such a great dog, however, looking back knowing a bit more than I did, some things seem a little shady. But, it can't make me love him any less

SOME GENERAL INFORMATION (not directed at any one person, just FYI)
Here is why it is important to do the research:
For your own benefit:
a responsible breeder has many years of testing involved and can let you know early on through testing if the dog is pre-disposed to any health issues. Also the temperment has been tested through the lines as well. This will save the owner time and money in both training, safety and vet issues for the dog. Now I am not saying that responsibly bred dogs will be 100% healthy their whole lives, but puppy mill dogs are more likely to die before their 1st birthday by a LANDSLIDE>
For the aminals:
Puppymills are illegal. Unfortunately it is not at the top of many politicians' lists, and therefore an incredibly underfunded task force regulates them. The best way to keep them from propogating or from creating new ones is to stop using them. If they stop making money they will no longer look to breed the dogs. PMS & BYB are only in it for the money. Plain & simple.
DO NOT BUY FROM PET SHOPS: Pet shops use Puppy mills, BYB and "Brokers" (who get their dogs from puppy mills). NO responsible breeder would sell one of their pets to a petstore. They may claim to have AKC papers, but when it comes time to register your pup you will find that you CANNOT register them with the AKC.

When we were looking for our dog, I contacted the breed's association and showed them the site where I was looking. It happened to be OK and like others have said the club said that there are no non-puppymills in OK.
What I did was looked for breeders that show their dogs. I had to wait, but I am happy I didn't contribute to the puppymill practice, but instead to someone who really wants the best for the breed.
I will say now, the next dog we get, will be from the pound/shelter.
