Re: So, it's that hot topic...excessing!
We have heard it in our district for the past 4 years. One year they did do it but then hired back all those excessed as leave replacements.
What really scares me is that in the early 90's my district excessed people as far back as 15 years experience. CRAZY!!! I can only hope that I never see that day. Both my husband and I work for the same district and were hired a year within eachother. If that ever happens again we'd have no income!

They can do that? I thought if you had tenure they couldn't let you go at all?

You can be excessed at anytime. It goes by seniority. Our old dean was excessed from Commack with 20 years in, because they hadn't done a lot of hiring in that time and he was still pretty low on the todome pole.
I am grateful I came in pretty close to the beginning of a huge retirement/ hiring phase in my district. I am number 2 (out of 12 or 13) in my building in my department and number 9 or 10 in my district in my department in seniority. They would have to let go of 2/3 of my department before they got to me.

We have had a major turnover in the past few years -- next year I will be 6/15 and it will be my 5th year, so hopefully I will be safe if this happens.
