ENDOCRINOLOGIST in Nassau County...
Could anyone recommend a good endocrinologist in Nassau County? My internist thinks I may have something more serious wrong with my thyroid, and he is making me go to an endocrinologist to get a Sonogram of my thyroid. Besides being REALLY nervous about this, I don't have any clue who I should go to. He said that I may have something ON my thyroid, or I could have Hashimoto's Thyroiditis... My thyroid is HIGHLY irregular, and it's near impossible to regulate it with meds. I'm NERVOUS!!!
So, any suggestions? Male or female is fine... They just have to accept EMPIRE...

I used to use Dr Rory Breidbart. He is in Great Neck. I LOVED him and only swithced when I moved out east and got PG and the commute became too much. I have Hashimoto's form of underactive thyroid. If you have any questions I would be more than happy to try and answer them.

I just wanted to let you know that I have two separate girlfriends who had their thyroids removed and they are doing GREAT and it was about 3 or 4 years ago.
I hope that helps reassure you a tiny bit.

Deb, as for your two friends who had their thyroids removed... Do they have a weight problem as a result? It's always been very difficult to lose weight for me, and I can't imagine not having a thyroid at ALL... I'd be as big as a house...

If I had to guess thier sizes I would say one was a size 23 and one was a size 14. I do believe that both of them take a medication called syntharoid (I might have butchered that spelling).

Yup, it's Synthroid. I'm on such a high dose now, that my speech is slurring. It's FUN when you're trying to teach a class!!! It's hardly noticeable, but I just feel like I have to think more when I'm speaking and concentrate more. It's a real PITA...
How have you been feeling? Are you home from the hospital yet?

Just remembered... I have an appointment in mid-february.
Okay, I think I may call... Is he a good doc? Is he thorough? Is he quick to put you under in surgery? I'm just nervous as to what may be going on with me, so I'm hoping he'll take a conservative approach... Have you been going to himn for a long time, and did he come highly recommended to you?

Well, during a routine exam, my GP thought my thryoid was enlarged and sent me for a sonogram. When she got the results, she suggested seeing an endo. My girlfriend sees Dr. Herson, so she recommended him.
After some blood tests, he said I don't have hyper or hypo-throidism, but do have the anitbody that can make it go either way. we've never talked surgery, and I'm not on any medication. I see him every 3-4 months for a checkup.
I've never had any problems or symptoms; I've been seeing him for about a year or so.

Dr. Irwin Klein in Lake Success - He is affliated with NSUH Manhasset and has a very good reputation - he specializes in Thyroid - my DH had a growth earlier this year and was referred to him - he really liked him.

I see Dr. Karen Schwartz in Woodbury. She's GREAT! I had nodules on my thyroid, which ended up being thyroid cancer. I had my thyroid removed and am now fully on synthroid. She was awesome through the whole process. I recommended her to another girl on here who went through the same thing and she loved her too. Any questions, you can FM me.

You HAVE to go to Dr. Vaswani, and you are so lucky because he accepts Empire. When I got married I changed from Empire to Magna Care and he doesn't accept it.
I went to 3 different doctors and no one cares like he does. He actually listens to you, not just your bloodwork. I actually PAY to go to him.
I don't have his # handy, but he's on superpages. Garden City.

I have been seeing Dr. Herson in Williston Park . I have thyroid issues so he was the only one to clarify it for me. Also, after just 2 months of him keeping track of my thyroid, I got pregnant.
He is extremely compassionate and easy to talk to. He is very smart and quite knowledgeable. After going to over 3 different endos, Dr. Herson was like a breath of fresh air. You will love him!!!!
