How can you tell a baby is gassy

My DD seems to be gassy, but since im a new mom, i have no idea what to look for. She will be calm and the out of the blue just kick her legs and jump and then get all fussy. She moves around a lot and sometimes cries. Its not like she cries hard, but if i put her down she will. She was up from 3 p.m. until 9:30 last night. Then she finally slept until 4.

Oh, also, can i spoil a baby that is just 2 weeks old. When she cries I hate it so i usually pick her up and hold her.

you sound like me 4 months ago. my son woud cry and had awful gas pain. he would scrunch up his legs into his chest, his face would turn red, he would arch his back. the best thing i found worked was to lay him tummy down on my knee and rub his back or carry him around tummy down like superman. after two months of pain and trying everything from mylecon drops to gripe water, he was diagnosed with acid reflux and put on zantac, which worked wonders.

you cannot spoil your baby the first three months. after that it is questionable. please read "the happiest baby on the block" it will really help you with many questions. also "the secrets of the baby whisperer". you need to hold your baby and comfort them and swaddle them. this book will really help you.

My dd would arch her back and bring her legs up to her chest. I would do the bicycle with her legs and that would help relieve some of the gas. I aslo would rub her tummy and carry her face down on my forearm. Have you tried gas drops? They also really help.

IMO you can't spoil a newborn. They need to be cuddled and love as much as possible to make them feel safe and secure!

DS arches his back and screams when he has gas...its aweful! He is on Zantac for reflux and takes Mylicon drops for the gas and 1/4 teaspoon of Mylanta one time a day to help him poop. After he poops, the gas usually comes out. We also do the bicycle with his legs which his legs and when he is upset from the gas, I hold him and rock him.

how do you feel about him being on zantac? my ds is on it and everyone judges me for him being on meds.

Jen you know my story and how gassy Hannah was. I would have to do the bicycle legs and she spent most of her first 5 weeks on her belly across my knees.

They usually pull their legs up or arch their backs. If its gas she will look uncomfortable. Red face, cry and seem like she's in pain.

Are you still changing her formula? That will definitely upset her system and will take some time to adjust to it. You really need to stick with one formula once you find what works for her.

I honestly do NOT believe you can spoil a baby that is 2 weeks old - then again I don't think a baby can be spoiled for the first 3 months of their lives (perhaps even longer.) I feel they need to learn to trust you and know you are there for her when she needs something (cry). Her only form of communication is to cry - so she's doing it for a reason and you need to attend to her.

DD was really gassy early on and still gets some bouts of bad gas now. She kicks out her legs really hard and her face turns red. When she gets it I do the bicycle also. We also started using the mylicon drops at every feeding and it seems to be helping.
