HELP: Timeshare Recommendations???
My DH have been looking into buying a timeshare. We have been looking into point shares because we like the flexibility of not having to trade etc. but we are open to anything.
Does anyone have any reasonable recommendations? We were thinking of buying something in Hawaii....
We looked into the Hilton and it's too much for us with trying to buy a house...
Any advice would be greatly appreciated!!
TIA!

Re: HELP: Timeshare Recommendations???
IMO the most important thing about the timeshare is the trading power. You want a location that rates highest year round, not only during certain months because then this will make your power to trade higher. The different companies have different rating systems, but if you go with a timeshare related to RCI you would want a gold crown resort or resort of international distinction. These are generally the best. I have been to many different timeshares (through RCI and Interval) and the ones I most preferred were the Fiesta Americana in Cabo San Lucas and the Carraige House in Barrie, Ontario. These were aestetically of the highest quality. An areal like Hawaii would be a great purchase because it is such a desirable location. I personally own in Florida, and my parents own upstate at the Villa Roma, and neither of us have had problems trading for places we wanted.
HTH! Fm with specific questions.

Re: HELP: Timeshare Recommendations???
I own in Aruba ...not a popular week but I have never had trouble trading through Interval International.
I would try to but through resale rather than through the resort itself....save you mucho $$$$

I would have to agree with Florida. We have not got one there yet but are going to in the near future. The prices in Orlando, Daytona and Miami are off the charts even in hurricaine/rain season.

Re: HELP: Timeshare Recommendations???
DH and I entertained the idea of a timeshare when we were on our honeymoon in Hawaii. We looked at the Westin-brand timeshares. They were really nice. I think it came out to $500/month or something along those lines.

Re: HELP: Timeshare Recommendations???
We own a timeshare through Starwood, the Sheraton Vistana in Orlando. We love it!
When we bought it, we also got a bunch of starpoints so the timeshare paid for all of our lodging on our 2 week honeymoon in Hawaii.
We looked in Hawaii as well, Sunterra had some great options for reasonable prices, the Starwood resorts there were a lot more expensive than the one we bought in Orlando but, you could trade for up to 4 weeks elsewhere.
FM me if you have any questions!

Re: HELP: Timeshare Recommendations???
We have a timeshare at Gurney's in Montauk. We haven't traded yet.
One thing for me that was important was that it be somewhere I could always get to - like if we had a bad year and airfare was just too expensive, it wouldn't affect us. We can always afford the gas to get to Montauk!! And it is a desirable location and resort.

Re: HELP: Timeshare Recommendations???
We own in Key West and belong to the RCI program Its a gold crown and the 48th week so its a red week! If you can buy something thats a red week and gold crown you can trade anywhere. Go to RCI.com and see the trading power you would have..
