When you do your nails yourself, how long does it last?
Are there any ways to make it last longer and prevent chipping? I LOVE the Essie's Wicked that I just bought, but it looks like cr@p once it begins to chip...
ETA: I use Essie's ridge filling base coat, and OPI top coat as well

I recently posted about needing a non chip top coat and was rec'd "Seche Vite". it really is great! I would say it lasts about a week.

when i do my own manicures (which is often) i use OPI nail envy as a base coat and the seche vite as a top coat. it dries very quickly.
it will usually last me about 4 days. i am SUPER anal about my nails though - if i so much as see one tiny chip on my pinky - it all comes off and gets redone. if i wasnt so anal - i probably could push it a week.

Does this stuff make it very hard so that you don't get dents? I did my nails last night and dumb me did it before getting ready for bed. So after I washed my face I noticed a dent in one nail. This morning I noticed "press marks" on my nails probably from coming in contact with my sheets. So it looks like a matte finish instead of smooth. I assume it was because the top coat was dry but not fully hardened.

If I do my nails at night, I don't do them less than 2 hours before I go to bed - for the reason that you mentioned. even though Seche Vite and other quick dry top coats work, IMO, the nail polish is still "dentable" for at least 1 hour after I do them.
My 1 and only complaint about this top coat is that it is a PIA to take off the polish. But it’s worth it b/c it works so well.

the best way to make your nail polish stay is to use a nail strengthening base coat (and as a top coat if you want) because nail polish will only last on healthy nails
i love nailtek and Seche vite is a great top coat

i only get my nails professionally painted...i don't have the patience or the skill to do it myself anymore. even my professional manicures last less than a week before they chip...i wish someone would invent a nail polish that stays longer!

Its wierd, because on my old gel nails, it would last forever. But on natural nails, even professional manicures don't last that long...

When I have natural nails, if I did them myself it would only last 1-3 days. My nails are not strong, and that makes it worse. If the nail bends a little, the polish starts to chip away. But even if I kept them very short, polish did not last. If I got a professional manicure, I would get an extra day or 2 out of it.
