Bad reaction to Clomid

Earlier this week, I vented on the old LIW board about how it was 18 dpo on a Clomid/IUI cycle, no AF but I wasn't pregnant. Well, not being pregnant turned out to be the least of my problems!

During that time, I had noticed that my abdomen was tender to the touch, and I felt bloated. I took that as a "pg" sign (duh), but when the blood tests were negative I started to worry. So I go back the next morning for an ultrasound and it turns out my ovaries were severely enlarged! One was the size of an orange. This was a bad reaction to the Clomid. The dr advised me to stay home and rest the remainder of the work, because my ovaries were in such a fragile state.

Now AF came today, which the dr said would be a good sign because it meant my ovaries were returning to normal. But... no more Clomid for me. The dr offered injectibles, but really, if something as mild and safe as the Clomid did this to me, what would the more potent injectibles do?

I am not doing any more fertility drugs. I'm thinking about doing some natural (i.e. no drugs) IUI cycles just to boost my chances a bit, since I never was diagnosed with a real fertility problem anyway. Seriously though, I'm leaning more and more toward adoption as the most attractive approach. I just cannot imagine risking my health any further, in order to have a biological child!

Sorry for the novel, I'm really just venting...

Re: Bad reaction to Clomid

have you looked into acupuncture?
There are a few women on ovusoft who swear by it.
Sorry about all you went through but I am glad all is returning to normal.

OMG -- I'm so sorry to hear that!! Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon That sounds really scary!

I think you are doing the right thing by avoiding anymore fertility drugs. You don't want to mess with your health like that.

Good luck and lots of baby dust to you!

Wow!! HOw scary!!! I am so sorry you went through this! Feel Better!

I am reading a book TCOYF and it states something about clomid may also increase the risk of ovarian cancer or tumors, particularly for for those who have been using clomid for about a year. And it also states, that it can also prevent a pregnancy. I just bought this book yesterday and it is very informative.

Feel Better!

I am so sorry to hear that. I, too, have heard some bad things about Clomid. My Gyno took me off after three month cuz he said that it can cause ovarian cysts if taken too many times in a row.
I have also heard good things about acupuncture. There are also some herbs that you might be able to take that would help.
Good luck!
