Chicago
DH & I were thinking of going to Chicago this summer, take in a Cubs/Mets game & do a little sightseeing. Neither one of us has been before so I'm looking for a little info.
Which airport to fly into? Where to stay so we will be in walking/train distance to most sights, restaurants etc?
Thanks

Re: Chicago
ooo we were just there last month- We loved it! : )
we stayed at the marriot on magnificant mile! it was a perfect location- near all the stores-shopping is amazing there! a cab ride to the museums. I loved the science and industry musem, the field museum was good, I disliked the contemporary art museum-but thats personal taste in art- it was nice to go though
eta: we went to the john hancock observatory as well.. it was a beautiful view!
we went to navy pier- it was cold- so it would be much nicer in the summer
It is a beautiful city .. you will love it!
we flew into Ohare and we had a shuttle take us to the hotel

Re: Chicago
I usually fly into Midway, it's about a $25 cab ride to the Magnificent Mile or you can take the train. The flights tend to be cheaper.
I stayed at the Radisson last year for business, it was nice and was right off Michigan Avenue, a block from the Prudential Center.
Navy Pier is nice to see (kind of like the seaport), as well as shopping along Michigan Ave. We also did a boat ride along the river, that was pretty cool. There were so many more things we wanted to see but we ran out of time.

Re: Chicago
DH lived in Chicago for 2 years, so if you have any specific questions, please FM me.
I used to fly in and out of Midway - it's smaller than O'Hare and closer to where DH lives (which is not far from where I reocmmend you stay). But, if you get a better deal on airfare, O'Hare is fine too. To get into the city, you can take the subway, a cab, or they also have shuttle vans which are pretty good. I would regularly check ATA (airline with its hub in Chicago - I think it merged with Southwest) and Southwest because they both run great deals to Chicago.
As a few other posters stated, I would stay in the Miracle Mile area.
Things to do: Besides the game, I would recommend seeing the John Hancock building - it has a really nice observatory and bar for drinks. Sears Tower is also in Chicago. There are also a lot nice architectural boat tours that leave off of Navy Pier which are nice. Check out the Navy Pier too. As for bars, there are tons of bars around Rush and Division - which is not far from the Miracle Mile area.
I am sure I can think of more things, but here are some basics for now!

Re: Chicago
I love Chicago! One of my best friends from college lives there. We fly Southwest into Midway and usually stay with them. There are tons of things to do. You can take a boat cruise on the river, go to the Sears Tower or the Hancock Building, definitely walk along the Miracle Mile. Also, go hang out at Navy Pier (kind of like South Street Seaport). Let me know if you need any other info.

Re: Chicago
We have a $200.00 credit from Delta so airfare would only be about $40.00, with tax out of pocket for us.
Thanks for all the suggestions - keep them coming.

Re: Chicago
I love Chicago! I went there quite a few years ago, but I think I stayed out the Hilton which was beautiful and it was near everything.

Re: Chicago
Chicago is a great city!!
As the other posters said, try to stay around the magnificent mile area. There are a ton of hotels to choose from, and a lot of restaurants & shopping there. It's also a prime spot for transportation. On our recent visit, we took the bus (across the street) to the Field Museum, & Shedd Aquarium. The train was also only a few blocks away - very easy.
We flew into O'Hare, but hear that Midway is closer and a little cheaper by cab. Our cab ride was $45 to the hotel (at around 6:50 on a frirday night)...on the way back to the hotel, we took the Blue Line EL which takes you right to the airport.
I posted a short review in TRAVEL if you want to check it out.
have fun!

Re: Chicago
Another fun suggestion: see if you can get tickets to see Second City - it's an improv show where many of SNL castmastes have started
