Re: Oatmeal bath help!

I bought this shampoo that has oatmeal in it- and its regular shampoo- it helps- maybe you can do that... want me to get the name of it?

ETA: I meant it was regular dog shampoo- I should have said that...

it is called: Earthbath Oatmeal and Aloe for Itch Relief

Re: Oatmeal bath help!

You can get it in a pet store. I personally would not use the one meant for people b/c dogs have a different pH than we do. I know that PetSmart has a big variety when it comes to selection & the workers there are pretty helpful.

I would definitely not get a shampoo or bath recommended for people then. Boxers are prone to skin allergies, and if there is lanolin or a derivative of it in the oatmeal bath it might not help.

Re: Oatmeal bath help!

we buy this. it a little expensice though. i think 15 a bottle. and we need one every other month since we bathe rocky every 1-2weeks

He uses Zodiac shampoo. It has coconut extract, oatmeal, lanolin, and aloe. In addition to killing fleas, ticks, and lice, and repelling gnats, flies, and mosquitoes for two to three days, the shampoo removes loose dandruff, dirt, and scales. Leaves coat soft, shining and helps prevent mats and tangles.

HE ALWAYS SMELLS LIKE BABY POWDER

Re: Oatmeal bath help!

My boxer has the same problem and we've tried everything. First I tried the oatmeal shampoo but it didnt seem to help. Then we went to the vet and they gave us a medicated shampoo and conditioner which worked a little better. I have also changed his food to the Natural Balance for allergies. Someone had told us the dry skin could be from not enough fat in his food because he only gets dog food, so we are going to try a fatty acid supplement in his food. I'll let you know if that helps. I hate to see him scratch so much.
