I'm pretty sure that teachers can contribute to 403B's (and not 401K's)
Could you guys let me know what companies you are working with for your assets?
I called fidelity and jp morgan, and it seems I can only open an IRA with them...not a 403B
any advice would be appreciated.
Thanks!

Re: 403B
Check with your school district or union. We use someone through our union.

I have my 403b through Mutual Inc. in Ronkonkama (I think). They were at my school the first year I started. Keith is his name.

Re: 403B
I NEED to open mine, it's so bad that I haven't started it yet. I am just so confused about the whole thing, I'm horrible with this stuff and my district hasn't been too helpful Sorry, wish I could help.

Re: 403B
I use AXA too. I asked a collegue who knows a lot about this stuff who she used. I found him very helpful. There are some websites out there (do a google search) to explain some of the details.

Re: 403B
It's similar to a 401K. It is basically a tax sheltered annuity. Money is deducted from your paycheck and at the end of the year you are not taxed on that sum (so it may keep you in a lower tax bracket even though you gross more money). There are various types of investment options within the 403B, depending on the amount of risk you are willing to take. My representative has been very helpful, and I started contributing as soon as I started my job so I don't know what it's like to have that extra money, therefore I don't miss it.
