Pregnancy Wardrobe

I was at my sister's house last night. She is 15 weeks pregnant and has already bought an entire new pregnancy wardrobe. She has SO much stuff, probably more then my entire pre-pregnancy wardrobe consisted of. She's definately a shopper, but it just made me feel all kinds of jealous/weird.

I think I am bothered by it for a few reasons. We dont' have the money for me to just go out and buy an entire new wardrobe. What extra money we do have we need to save or spend on the baby. Also, since I'm plus sized, I couldn't buy so much stuff anyway since you walk into the one store that sells plus-sized maternity, and they have two whopping racks in the back, when the whole store is filled with beautiful trendy clothes for thin moms-to-be. I also couldn't understand the necessity of owning like 5 pairs of pregnancy black capris, 4 different tan corduroys, 6 different jeans, etc.

Maybe I'm just silly for being jealous. It just bothered me last night when she was showing them all off.

Re: Pregnancy Wardrobe

Yea...it drives me crazy too. Check out thrift stores...I found a Mimi Maternity shirt in one for $4!!!

I have what I need, I do what I do to get by...I have 4 pairs of shorts...yep:2 denim, 1 khaki, and one black, some skirts, and solid color tops. That's it really.

Chat Icon Just because she has more, doesn't mean she's better off or she's a better mom-to-be

Re: Pregnancy Wardrobe

My friend is like this- very into fashion before being PG. I think its just a matter of preference. I prefer not to spend a ton of money on clothes that I won't be wearing that long. I spent a little more on a nice pair of jeans, a pair of black pants, and a pair of khaki's to mix and match the rest of the pregnancy. I have to dress nicer on Monday's since I do evaluations for my preschool, so I bought a few nicer tops- but that's it! PS- if you live near a Marshall's, I heard they have maternity now too- I found jeans there cheaper than Target( 1/2 the price)

Personally, I don't see the sense in spending a ton of $$ on PG clothes that you can only wear temporarily. I only have the bare minimum to get by really. I live in my Old Navy t-shirts.

I am plus sized to and got most of my stuff at JC Penny online. Unfortunately they don't carry the plus size in the stores but they had some fairly cute stuff and covered all the basics and the prices weren't too bad. Also if you search online you can usually find someone offering up a discount code.

I agree spending a ton on maternity is a waste but even the small things add up fast Chat Icon Chat Icon .

Re: Pregnancy Wardrobe

It's definitely a waste, even if you have the money... I found myself getting maternity clothes every month ever since month 5 but that's just because I kept growing out of everything! I didn't take everyone's advice to buy larger stuff Chat Icon I found a lot of GREAT deals online, like on ebay they sell a lot of NEW old navy and gap maternity at almost half the price, in a variety of sizes... if desperation calls, you should check it out!

Yes that is the worst!
Everything is tight now. Thank goodness some of it is wearable and I am out of work so most days I just stay in PJ's.

Re: Pregnancy Wardrobe

What a waste!! I found myself buying non-maternity tank tops and stretchy pants just because maternity stuff is SO expensive!

Re: Pregnancy Wardrobe

Such a waste of money. I bargain shop when I buy maternity clothes and I didn't buy that much. I'm 32 weeks & ceratin things don't fit anymore. My shorts are getting mighty tight!!

Re: Pregnancy Wardrobe

I borrowed alot of my maternity clothes. My sister & girlfriend are done having children so they "gave" me their clothes. I wanted to buy a few of my own things since I needed work clothes, but in my opionion, I'd rather save my money for clothes that will fit me down the road, rather than maternity clothes.

Re: Pregnancy Wardrobe

I got a lot from my sister in law.

I try and buy neutral things so I can mix and match and rotate- at this oint I do not want to buy anymore because ai only have 3 months to go.
I will probably pick up some jeans and sweaters though.

Re: Pregnancy Wardrobe

I think I sould like a commercial for Old Navy at this point, but I went shopping there about a week and a half ago and found a lot of really cheap maternity clothes. The pants were $6 and $7 a pair. Some shirts were $5.
