Anyone been to Belize?
Hey looking for an adventurous differnt vacation. Anyone been to Belize or anywhere else excited in north or central american??

I've never been to Belize, but we are in the process of booking a trip to Costa Rica. I know they have adventure packages. We're not adventuresome, so we'll be spending our time on the beach or the pool

i am going on a cruise next week and one of the stops is Belize, and Guatamala and Mexico. I will let you know.

We spent the day in Belize while on a cruise. We went cave tubing and it was a really unique and fun adventure.
The country is very poor, but there are areas that are very pretty and tropical.
The ecological park that we hiked through before reaching the start of our cave tubing adventure was beautiful.
It was very hot (we went in May).

Yes - loved it. I actually stayed a week in a village that had no electricity, water etc.. It was an AMAZING experience! Great people, beautiful country. I felt extremely safe and secure. Most speak English. We also rented a car and drove the whole length of the country. Any place specific you are looking at?

We looked into it for our HM. Heard it was beautiful, but you couldn't leave the hotel.

You couldn't leave the hotel in Belize?  I am really surprised by that. I went to the Dominican Republic and not leaving the hotel was suggested - that I understand - but I am surprised that someone recommended not leaving the hotel in Belize. We honestly drove all around the country - Belmopan, Belize City and surrounding areas. Everywhere we could get out and walk around. We even approached a house (we were lost in the jungle and it was dark) and asked for assistance. The woman made us dinner and gave us the name of an inn we could stay at a few miles down the road. I had nothing but a positive experience there.

Thanks for the input. We want to stay in Placencia (at Turtle Inn) and in the jungle, cayo distric I belive possibly Chaa Creek.
We would also rent a car to see more.
Any more info would be great.

I just got back from my cruise tonite, so I am exhausted. I LOVED Belize. We went to the zoo and a river tour of a rain forest. We saw Howler monkeys in the trees, storks, alligators, bats, toucans, etc. I will write more when I get situated. We came home to my car having a flat, had to wait for AAA, a snow storm and bare essentials in the fridge so we had to run to supermarket becuase of the snow storm.... Belize was my favorite port!

We did this too...it was soo much fun...I wasnt too fond of the port though....
