Crockpot question...Is this normal?

I think my crockpot is not working right. Every time I cook something on low, (8 or 10), it's done in 4-6 as if it's cooking on high. I made something yesterday, set it at 10 hours cook time and by 8 hours it was overcooked and burnt. I think there's something wrong with it. Does your crockpot cook like this?

you might not have enough liquid in the pot and that will make things burn.

If needed I add liquid as its cooking

i agree... sounds like you may need to add extra water to the recipes- even just a little bit will make a difference, and it really doesn't affect the taste. the steam helps the food cook, so there needs to be enough liquid in there so it doesn't overcook...

This happens even when I cook soup. My DH said the same thing but there was plenty of liquid and the bottom and the edges still burned.Chat Icon

Happens to me all the time. The longest I can leave something in there is 6 hours. Which one do you have?

I have a Rival and not a cheap one, I might add. It's all the recipes I seem to have a problem with. It just seems to be at way too high of a heat for the low/slow cook temp.

We have the Rival one too with a 4, 6, 8 , 10 and warm setting. I always set it on 10.
