ACUPUNCTURE

I have heard that Acupuncture helps with Infertility so I was going to give it a try. I called a place near me and was told that I should start now since I will be starting my IVF Medication in the beginning of April. They said that I should come 2x's a week until the transfer (which will be probably beginning of May).

The cost is $120 for the initial visit and then $80 per visit thereafter.

Now here's my question - the Acupuncture person told me to come 2x's a week which would cost me $160.00 a week for almost 7-8 weeks. IS this normal??? I think that's a lot of money. Is it really necessary to go 2x's a week for 7 weeks before the transfer? Or is this person trying to rip me off?

Any advise would be helpful. Thanks.

Re: ACUPUNCTURE

Yes it sounds OK, my accupuncturist doesn't charge quite as much as that. Mine charges me $65 per visit. Just make sure that they are not charging you for the herbal supplements, some RE's don't like you to take them whilst you are doing IVF. I would go twice a week.

I find it very relaxing

Good luck

Some insurance plans will cover accupuncture

Re: ACUPUNCTURE

I went to an acupuncturist for a few visits. See if you can find someone who is dedicated to IF issues. The guy I went to was not and I don't think he knew a lot about it. He was nice but I feel like I needed someone else. Then I never got around to finding anyone else near me. The price you got sounds about right and the advice to come twice a week seems to be standard.

Re: ACUPUNCTURE

That sounds about right. The first acupuncturist I went to charged $80 a visit but I stopped seeing him because he did not specialize in IF and was concentrating more on my bad knee than my reproductive systemChat Icon The acupuncturist I see now had an initial consult fee of $120 and a $65 a fee afterwards per session. 2x a week is about average. Good Luck!

Re: ACUPUNCTURE

I went to a woman who charged $85 a visist. The one I see now (still) specializes in IF and charges either $65 or $70. NO initial consultation fee. 2 times a week is OK, you can also do once a week. That's what I did.

I still see her. A few ladies from this board who are now on the pg board have gone to her.

Re: ACUPUNCTURE

I went to an acupuncturist who specializes in IF. He charges $90 a visit. The initial consult was more; $120, I think. He also wanted me to come in 2x a week. DH and I only went 1x a week because of the expense.

You should check with your RE about herbs. Some are ok with herbs during IVF and some aren't.

Re: ACUPUNCTURE

I try to go 1 or 2 times a week. I think mine is $60 per visit but I got lucky my insurance covers the first 20 visits, just pay my copay

Re: ACUPUNCTURE

I just had my second visit yesterday.

She charged 105 for the first visit, but thankfully insurance pays 80%, so I pay a $20 copay when I go.

She specializes in IF issues.

Re: ACUPUNCTURE

Thank you all for the advice. I will check into my insurance to see if they pay anything. If not, maybe I'll go once a week. Thanks again and good luck to everyone!
