Invite w/o Invitation

I have a dear friend, who I have known and loved for many years, despite the fact we do not see each other often. We correspond mostly through email because of both of our chaotic schedules and that we are hundreds of miles apart (Read: I have all of our "conversations" in my inbox). A few months back, she mentions she is planning her daughter's baptism and the date it is set for. She doesn't ask me to attend, offer the church location or mention any times for the ceremony or party. I admit, I was a little disappointed not to be invited but figured she was trying to keep it small with just family and local friends. Honestly, I forget about the whole thing. The baptism comes and goes. Then, I get an email from her telling me how beauitful the baptism was and how disappointed she was that I did not attend or "acknowledge" the sacrament. I was shocked! I thought I was not even invited. I never received any invitation in the mail! How could she be so upset? I haven't responded to the email but she sounds upset (and hormonal). How do I handle?

Re: Invite w/o Invitation

I would e-mail her back (or call) and say that you were sorry, you did not think you were invited being you never received a formal invitation in the mail and that you were under the impression she was only inviting family.

I dont think you were in the wrong at all. If I did not receive an invitation in the mail I would not think I was invited either.

I would tell her exactly what you wrote explaining it all - I'm sure she'll understand!
