Resorts to Stay Away From....

People are always asking for recommendations, but what about posting resorts you thought just were not up to par.

ETA: And why you were unhappy.

Re: Resorts to Stay Away From....

I might be in the minority on here with this one but I was less than thrilled with the Sandals Royal Bahamian. I thought the food was mediocre and the accomodations were run down. It totally changed my opinion of all-inclusive (I had previously stayed at one of the Sandals in St Lucia and loved it).

I've stayed in small luxury hotels for less and got more.

I was very unimpressed with Sandals Grande St. Lucia. I would never recommend it.

Re: Resorts to Stay Away From....

Carnival's 3 or 4 day cruises.

I wouldn't say stay away, just don't go with great expectations.

I've been on 7 different cruises, and I probably got spoiled by the 7-day cruises. For the 7-day cruises, the ships are bigger, newer and nicer.

Carnival uses their older ships for the 3/4 day cruises, and they were a bit run-down. I was disappointed. But, let me repeat, I think I was so "wow"-ed by the other cruise ships (some also Carnival), that the comparison was a let down.

Like I mentioned, I wasn't impressed with the food - it was nothing more than cafeteria food, imo and the "top restaurants" were OK.

B/c of the humidity there was a lot of musty odor (why they put carpeting anywhere is beyond me). We did like the "pub" though...and the pool on the "older" side.

Maybe I've been spoiled by other travel experiences but I feel that Sandals is overpriced (if not a little hokey Chat Icon).

Re: Resorts to Stay Away From....

We went for our Honeymoon also (1/10/07-1/17/07). I thought that the resort was nothing special. The rooms were just OK (we had to be moved from the 1st room), the food was just OK (sometimes not even), and the service sucked. There was nothing to do past 10pm. For the money ($7,000 for a week), i have have stayed at much, much better all inclusive resorts.

That's where I was supposed to go on my HM but we had to postpone. I thought the same thing when the travel agent told us the price. I thought $7000 was alot of money for an all inclusive. Again, I haven't gone yet but i've stayed at other all inclusives and it wasn't close to that amount of $.

We went there on our HM and loved it. Our room was beautiful!!! And we thought the food was really good. I rec it all the time. And I didn't think it was that $$.

ETA I have also stayed at "luxury" hotels and still had an awesome experience.

i agree i liked sandals.
it is a little cheezy there but we stayed in the lowest room possible and for the money, i think its great

now, if i was going to spend tousands of dollars to upgrad to one of the top rooms,, id rather go to a luxury place

but for a quick getaway where everytyhing is included i think sandals is great

Sandals in Antigua was awful. We complained along with other couples and got a comp trip. We used the comp trip for Sandals in Bahamas. While it was better than Antigua, I did not care for it.

I agree about the Royal Bahamian. I like Sandals in general but after being at their resorts 6 times, it's time for a change.

Re: Resorts to Stay Away From....

Last summer, DH and I had a timeshare week to use and had to stay somewhere in driving distance because of low funds

We drove to Vernon NJ to the Minerals Resort because it had a huge pool, hot tub, etc just like if we were on a "real" vacation

It was such a horrid place- we had bugs in our room (many different types) no maid service, and overprices restaurants on the resort location. Oh and there was NOTHING to do for miles around

We're sticking to resorts we have been to and trust from now on
