Re: Pet food recall?

There is a HUGE list of recalled pet food, not just the one mentioned.

Re: Pet food recall?

I think it was one parent company that makes 48 brand of dog food and 40 brands of cat food. I feel so badly for all of the pet owners.

ETA:

Looks like more than I thought.

No problem! I just went back and re-read my post, and realized I came across a bit snotty. I'm sorry if I did...that's the one thing I HATE about the internet!

Just wanted to share what I had heard. Chat Icon

Re: Pet food recall?

Here's the list of Dog Food:

The Houston SPCA would like to inform you of a significant recall of cat and dog food by the manufacturer Menu Foods. The company produces pet food for 17 of the top 20 pet-food manufacturers in North America, and supplies such popular outlets as Kroger, Safeway, Wal-Mart, and PetSmart.
Menu Foods issued the recall following reports of kidney failure in many pets, which may be linked to consumption of their product. In 10 cases, an animal has died.

The recall consists of over 60 million containers of “cuts and gravy” style wet food distributed in cans and small foil pouches. The food in question was produced between the dates of December 6, 2006 and March 6, 2007. The latest information, including a full list of affected products can be found at the link below.

www.menufoods.com/recall

Here at the Houston SPCA, we have an everlasting concern for the welfare of all pets in our community and we encourage everyone to check their pet food supplies for these recalled products. We feel it is our duty to inform the public of such threats to the safety of animals, and we would be grateful if you could assist us in that effort by forwarding this e-mail to friends, family, and anyone with a love for animals.

Thank you,

The Houston SPCA

google is your friend ...

Diamond, in an alert for consumers posted on its website, says symptoms of potential illness in dogs may be difficult to discern but can include:

Loss of appetite

Yellow whites of the eyes, yellow gums, yellow in the belly or areas where hair is very thin

Severe, persistent vomiting combined with bloody diarrhea

Discolored urine

Fever

I would still call the vet. Although the internet can give great advice I'd personally rather hear it confirmed by a vet professional. Actually one of the first symptoms for early detection according to my Dr is excessive thirst & listlessness.Chat Icon

Do you feed your dog the wet food? It's the food in the pouches that are contaminated. We feed our cat Nutro Natural, but only dry and that is not part of the recall.

Re: Pet food recall?

I'm calling the vet today...We give Rudy the pouches of Nutro sometimes...
He had diarrhea about a month ago, for a few days...but it went away, I chalked it up to his sensitive tummy (sometimes we give him little nibbles from the table & it will upset his stomach that night).
I'm wondering if I bought contaminated food, could be since it was around that time?
He has been fine since then, but better safe than sorry...

So do I Chat Icon
I just called the vet and I'm going to go to Petco and return the pouches I just purchased. I don't know of another wet food that he's going to eat. There are so many on this list

Re: Pet food recall?

Any of the Purina labels are okay, they are not made at the same factory.
