Business Casual?

Sorry if this is a really dumb question, but I am transitioning out of an industry where a tank top, PJ pants and flip flops (and in some cases a j Chat Icon - not on MY shows ) is acceptable work attire.

But are the following items business casual?

Capri pants (like the same material, style as dress pants, but shorter)..if so, do they need to be worn with hose?

skirts without hose

knit or other tops that are shaped like a t-shirt but are not t-shirt material?

Sorry if these are dumd questions, but I was looking through a catalog to order some clothes and I just don't know.

Also, are open toe shoes ok for spring/summer?

The job I hope to get is on the casual side of business cas.

Re: Business Casual?

No, but just in general....

I basically know how people dress at this job, since I used to work there...but in the general sense.

I really hope I even get the job...but I figure most of the jobs I'm applying for will be business casual. I'm never going to work somewhere that requires a suit. I also feel like having some nicer clothes for holidays/going out/etc anyway

Agreed.

When I worked in NY, I worked on Wall Street and the company I worked for was business casual so skirts (knee length) with no hose was fine, open toe shoes were fine, but no flip flops or tank tops.

I worked for a different company business casual and they were in Union Square and no open toe shoes at all, shoulders had to be covered, and if you wore a skirt you had to wear hose. I called it the high end of business casual.

Now in FL, business casual is completely different. Heck people dont even wear suits on their interviews.

I am glad I work for a company I can wear jeans everyday

Re: Business Casual?

When I worked in NYC on Wall Street, business casual meant no suits, but no open-toed shoes, no sleeveless tops, no capris, no bare legs. So dress pants but with a blouse or dressy shirt.

Where I am now I can do sandals, but we are asked not to wear capris. One boss said capris look like picnic attire.

I work in a business casual - i think it all dpends on the company -

Capris - no
Open toes -no
skirts w/o hose - technically no, but we do it all the time in the summer (NC)
knit tops that look like tshirts - kind of, I always have a cardigan/jacket with me in case I have meeting.

But like i said, all depends, i think if you're "dressing to impress" you'd probably shy away from a few of things you noted at first. HTH.

Re: Business Casual?

I would stick with button down shirts and slacks or skirts. If you want to be funky play with patterns and colors. Most places do not want opne toes or capris.

Re: Business Casual?

alot of those things tend to be company- specific.

we were never allowed to wear capris or skirts w/o hose before, but last summer, they made it acceptable for the summer dress code (within certain dates). Open toed shoes are allowed in my office, BUT, they have to have a back on them (even if its a strap), and you have to wear hose with them, too, if its before memorial day or after labor day.

they're fine with the knit shirt thing.

i would dress more on the conservative/cautious side until they clarify their guidelines for you.

Re: Business Casual?

Thanks

This is mainly a curiousity question.

The palce where I really want a job is a more anything goes atmosphere, but I'm curious about what "bsuiness casual" can mean, it has a LOT of range..but it seems like if I do want to build my wardrobe, it'll be better to buy things on the conservative side so they can work in any setting
