Amex and Traveling Abroad

I wanted to know if you can use AMEX for just about anything in London? Metro, tube, pubs, etc. I heard the exchange rate is better when you use Amex.

Are pounds necessary to have or can the cc be used for just about everything? My thought process is that you get a better exchange rate and still get the points. Does that make sense?

I agree-- and I use cc wherever possible and wait to take out money from an ATM from whatever country I am in for the same reasons-- better exchange rate.

I am pretty sure that i used my Amex to purchase an underground pass-- but there will be things when you need cash. There are ATMs when you get out of the terminal at Heathrow so you can have some money for when you leave the airport.

I don't believe AMEX is accepted all that widely these days, places will take it, but not as widely in the states. You are much better off using a visa or mastercard. Cash you can just get from any hole in the wall....there are cash machines everywhere!

I feel for ya...I just came to the states and got $2 for every £1, for you...its the opposite!!! Have a good time!

The excange rate is very good but AMEX will charge you a conversion fee.

We've traveled around Europe alot over the past two years and Amex is not widely accepted. They prefer Visa/MC.
