LIJ vs. Winthrop
I have difficult pregnancies. So I go to the hospital at least once a week. This is my second child and have had it with the staff at LIJ. I was wondering if anyone else has had a similar experience.
Whenever I talk to pepole about Winthrop - they always have great things to say. I am totally in love with my doctor and don't want to switch. But I was just curious if other people have found the same thing.
Thanks :) Vera

Re: LIJ vs. Winthrop
My one friend was living in western queens with her first & still chose to travel to Winthrop. She even looked at a bunch of hospitals in NYC & decided on Winthrop.

I am not pregnant not even trying to ttc, but I also chose my dr. (same one as msmbv) because she was affiliated with winthrop.
My friend had heart surgery there and then had her son there. My cousin delivered her premature son at south nassau and was rushed to Winthrop. Jason was born 1.25 and is now a healthy 17 pounds. Thanks to the wonderful nurses and neo natal care he got at winthrop.

Re: LIJ vs. Winthrop
See, I am the opposite.
I had my first son at Winthrop, and hated it. I ended up with a C/S and the nurses in the OR treated me like I was not even there, they talked and refered to me as if I were not sitting (lying) right there. The recovery room nurses were just "ok", and I found the visiting hours at Winthrop to be way too restrictive. There were special visiting hours only for grandparents. During the normal visiting hours though, the babies were not allowed to be in your room, they HAD to be rbought back to the nursery, so everyone only got to look through the window.
I had my 2nd son at LIJ, also an unplanned c/s. The labor and delivery nurses were AMAZING, so super friendly and encouraging. One of them took pictures for me of my baby in the OR (VBAC attempt, ended in another c-section). The nurses in the recovery room were also wonderful. The rooms were clean, the food was not bad at all, and visiting "hours" were pretty much all day long. Anyone could come at any time, and the baby was with me the ENTIRE time, so everyone got to see him.
To me, the visiting was key, because everyone got to see him in the hospital, I was not innundated with visitors the first day we were home like I was with DS#1.
I will be having #3 at LIJ too. I also LOVE that Schneiders Childrens Hospital is RIGHT there (god forbid) my baby needs it.

Re: LIJ vs. Winthrop
I have to completely agree with Chris above me. I can also tell you when I was hospitalized 2 years ago with my son - each and every nurse I encountered at LIJ was amazing. I received such amazing care while I was there that I had not one moments hesitation about going back for this pregnancy. We also had to go to labor & delivery a couple of weeks ago and the nurses actually remembered us. I am such the skeptic thinking they just looked up our information in their computer, but they were obviously guessing at remembering most of our information especially since they did get some of it wrong. Now I wouldn't be so surprised if the maternity floor nurses remembered us since we spent so many weeks there, but the labor and delivery nurses only experienced us upon arrival and once our son was born.
Many people wonder how I can go back to LIJ after losing my son - but it had nothing to do with the hospital or the nurses at LIJ or at Schneiders. And since we have a chance of a NICU stay - I wouldn't want to be anywhere else.
