Re: Those that bought a house/condo in Florida...

I am new member to this site - I have been a lurker for some time - my best friend is a vendor on this site.

I am formerly from Brooklyn now living in Port St. Lucie Florida and I love it!!

I don't have a picture of my house - however it is new construction we started building it in 2004 - and moved in 2005 took less than a year to build.

I miss Brooklyn, the housing market there was out of the question for us too expensive.

Hi! My family has second homes in Boca Raton and Delray Beach. Beautiful area, although I would not want to live there permanently if I was younger than 55! Sorry, no pics!

Delray beach is not like that anymore

my brother lives in delray about a mile from the beach- I think Atantic is the main road

it's all young people, fun resturants, bars- cute shops

I'll try and get a pic of his condo for you- it looks like an italian villa-

I think Delray does have a lot of 55+ communities Beth. I know my mom's friends all have homes in Delray beach which is 55+. There may be some areas that are young, but Delray is a large retirement community.

of course- all of floridia does- my grandma has had a condo there for 15 plus years- but most are further in land- not near the beach and intercoastal

they re-did the whole downtown area that used to be really bad- and it's very "hip" now

my brother has lived there for 3 years- it is not the same place I remember visiting 10 years ago- he has made a ton of friends all around 25-32

ETA- I was correct Atlantic is the main road- it's filled with all resturants and bar like this City Oyster

you can walk there from my brothers house- the whole street was filled with people 40 and under- it was a great scene- I really liked it

it's about 1 mile from the beach

My aunt lives off of A1A on the water... I agree that downtown delray is "younger" and does not have the same retirement feel as where my Grandparents live off of Lake Ida or where other family live in Boca, but I still would not want to live there. JMHO!

My parents bought a 2 bed/2 bath villa in a gated golf community in Sarasota, on the Gulf Coast. It's about one hour south of Tampa. I love it there. Their development is not an over 55 community and many people my age live there. Sarasota actually has a lot of commerce in the area - banks, businesses, etc., and the beach at Siesta Key is just gorgeousChat Icon Chat Icon I think HarleyGirlFLA lives in the same area.

We are in Navarre, we bought new construction ICF (hurricane proof --concrete with brick overlay) house in 2004 for 189,000 or taxes are currently 1,500 with our Florida Resident Homestead exemption. We have a little less then an Acre and live in one of the biggest HOA in Florida. Our school district is great as well.

My best friend lives there and we ALMOST bought a house there before everything soared in price. The house we were getting ready to close on had the roof blown off by one of the hurricanes a couple years back. This is a GREAT area and I love it.

We're in North Port. It's on the South west coast of FL. 30 min south of Sarasota. I live about 30 min from the number 2 beach in the US (Siesta key) Other top beaches that are about an hour from me include Sanibel Island and Captiva.

Here is a pic of my home the day we moved in. We had our house built.
