stray cats
There are a few that roam our block and one in particular that is always in our yard. I don't want to sound like an animal hater, but how can I get rid of them?! Yesterday I put out the lawn chairs with their cushions and found the cat curled up on one when I came home today. I'm allergic so I don't want all of their dander getting on the chairs. HELP!

Re: stray cats
Have you tried calling the ASPCA for your area, or animal control if the ASPCA has no suggestions?
After that, I'm not sure there is much you can do. Definitely do not feed them anything at all, or they will never leave you alone.
I know how you feel. I like cats, but I had a garden in NYC once and there was constantly cat poop in it--really disgusting.

Re: stray cats
I have the same problem and the cats use my flower beds as a litter box and I think it hangs out under my DH boat on the driveway b/c I smell its droppings.
I saw something in an ACE hardware ad that you sprinkle on plants and stuff and they wont come back. I havnt made it there to look at it yet but it might be worth a shot.

Re: stray cats
We have the same problem at our house. Anth and I are VERY allergic to cats, yet those feral cats seem to be around all the time. They regularly hang out in our yard and THE worst thing is cleaning up their poop. Ever smell feral cat poop? It's the worst smell ever. It's even MORE fun cleaning it!!!
I love animals, so I won't call the town. I don't want them to take the cats to kill shelters, yet I don't LOVE the fact that they're all over.
If you find an answer to your question, let me know! I want to get them away in the most humane way possible.

Re: stray cats
I guess it is that time of year again.
Hi. I have been reading a lot of posts about feral cats with kittens running around. If you have any strays or ferals in your neighborhood, please TNR.
The ASPCA does it for free or very low cost for those NOT on public help.
If you live in LI, fm me. There are various rescues that do it, but the schedule is always changing.
The trap is rented from your local shelter . When you return it, you get your money back.
Please trap neuter release. Spread the word.

Re: stray cats
Do any of you poor folks live in Kings Park? I know a woman who feeds them. I am not sure if she TNR's them but I hope so! I would do a google search for all natural deturents (sp?) Hope you find the answer. We have a dog, that seems to keep the strays around here away.
