East Meadow
All the teachers in my building are talking about the rally held in support of the EMSD....busloads of teachers turned out yesterday to show support. What a wonderful sense of community...I only hope the teachers are able to get the contract they deserve and soon!

Re: East Meadow
They asked teachers from all over NYS to attend the board meeting. NYSUT is claiming that if the EM Super gets his way that it will begin a campaign of union busting in NYS.
I don't know much - but I did hear that he is offering 0% for the first year they worked without a contract and doubling health insurance payments

You are correct...the health insurance is close to dbling
BUT DEF 0% for the first year and raising % of health contribution
Did you know Dr Dillion is retiring Feb 2008!?
Makes me sick!
Those who came to the rally we thank you for your support! We are soooo happy to be backed by you
Solidarity!

My parents went to EM last night to rally - they work for Long Beach schools. They are very involved with their unions.

Re: East Meadow
Hey - one of the teachers from my school was quoted in the Newsday article. I was talking to friends of mine who work at EMHS and they told me they thought there was no way they would have a contract until after Dillon retired!

Re: East Meadow
The fact that Dillon and the board are getting away with this after years is extremely disturbing!! They truly are a pathetic bunch and something should be done to them to make them pay for what they have done to the children, teachers and members of the East Meadow Community!! I hope the entire board rots in hell for what they have done. They claim to love and support education, yet have no clue about it at all!!!

It's ridiculous what they can get away with! When the Superintendent in my district "opted" for early retirement, he was still paid for an additional year because that's how long his contract was. So while we went without a contract, they paid two people to do the most expensive job in the district! Of course, the only hired a temporary Superintendant, so once they found a permanent replacement, they were paying THREE people to do one person's job.
