Tarter on Teeth...PLEASE help!!

My little guy has bad tarter and BREATH!! My vet said (last year......) that he should be chewing on bones etc that would help reduce it and help get some of it OFF!!

What things do you give your dogs to chew that help reduce/eliminate tarter etc?? He mentioned REAL meat bones from butcher. How do i do that???

Nylabone makes this:

We also give Dottie Greenies - 1 or 2 per week. The package says 1 per day, but I feel like that's too much.
They really help.

ETA: In case anyone is worried about the greenies, they have made a new formula that is highly digestable for dogs. They are safe from the recall as well.

And we also give him the same one that Chikita first listed. Any thing with those spikes on it will do the trick...

Edited after I read what Chikita wrote about Greenies... I'm still wary, but Cooper has so many stomach issues that I wouldn't chance it with him...

We give our pups the spiky one of this chew and a Jumbone for the Pug (he is small but has a big mouth!)

I don't recommend greenies b/c of the issues and if I remember correctly (and forgive me if I do not) you have a deep chested dog, which can be more prone to the issues with Greenies.

Also there are pads that you can use on your dog's gumline, but depending how severe it is at this stage you may have to have the vet clean the dog's teeth & then just maintain them from here on in.Chat Icon
