Diahrrea? Updated 4/3

With the Menu foods recall of Science diet can food varieties I decided to switch my cats food altogether. I changed their food last night and now one of them has diarrhea.

I am very worried. Its 830 and I cant get in touch with the vet. Im hoping that the change in food is the cause of the diarrhea and not the fact that they have been eating science diet dry and canned indoor formula cat food. Chat Icon

Update: I took her to the vet at lunch, and brought a sample for him to send for a culture. He didnt seem that worried, he said it could take a few weeks for her to get over the diahrrea. Most important she is NOT dehydrated. I feel alot better now...still not liking the diahrrea though

Thank you for your response. She has had diarreha since yesterday and just got out of the litter box and had another episode just now. Just to be on the safe side I am calling the vet when they open this morning.

Re: Diahrrea?

In the meantime try adding some white rice boiled (& not rinsed) to the food. Let the rice cool before mixing it. It should help the pup alongChat Icon

Aw, poor babyChat Icon I wouldn't freak out - I am sure it's the food switch. If it lasts more than 2 days, I would call the vet to be safe.

Re: Diahrrea?

The vets usually recommend mixing in the new food with the old food slowly but surely before changing it completely because it may cause an upset stomach. Of course this is a whole different scenario because of the pet recall but I wouldn't worry too much.Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

Re: Diahrrea?

She may not be able to adjust to the new food. That happened with my dog and I had to go back to the old food.

It is possible that the new ingredients are making digestion difficult. Definitely go to the vet but keep in mind that animals are way more sensitive to change than we are.

Good Luck & let us know how it goes at the vetChat Icon Chat Icon

Re: Diahrrea? Updated 4/3

glad to hear that there is no dehydration issues. Can you add rice to the food? this can help to bind....
