if you were me how would you tell..

i have to tell my parents I am pregnant soon because it is killing me that they do not know and It is tearing me up i nside, I am depressed, and cry all the time, I am just not happy and I should be and I am not able to enjoy my pregnancy. The thing is i do not know where to begin how to start. They do not know I am dating my boyfriend so it is going to be a shock to them. I think I should tell them alone, maybe my dad 1st without my mom i think he will yell more if my mom is there....it is like a bad dream to me, when i think what i have a head of me i cry and cry and cry.

I think you should out your parents together and tell them the story from the beginning. Truth is the best way, just be ready for the reactions. It might not be as bad as you think.

I think you should tell them ASAP - the stress is not good for you and the baby, especially this early in your pregnancy.

I am so sorry you are going through this. If you believe it would be best to tell your parents separately, than trust your judgment. It really depends on your relationship wtih your parents, and they way your parents are. Are you closer to one parent? It may be easier to tell that one first and then tell the other parent together.

I do think you should tell them as soon as possible. The stress is not good for you, or your baby. They may be mad at first, but they will come around. Stay strong! We are here for you

ETA: Definitely tell them the whole story. I agree with the above poster- that its better to get it all out now- so they can deal with it, get over it, and you can all start planning for your new baby.

I am not close to my dad at all, he is relly strict and treats me like I am a baby, I am more afraid of him then anything , my mom i am close to and i know i am going to hurt her she always defends me and covers for me with my dad, so I know if i tell her 1st she will think oh no we have to tell my dad or if I tell them together then I know she will be afraid of his reaction as well.

It sounds like you are in a tough situation. I would either tell them together, or tell your mom first and later the same day, tell your dad. He may be angry, but that will soon pass. You'r dad may hide his hurt with anger, but be prepared for it. You must stay strong. Tell him that this is the situation you are in, you are doing what is best for you and your baby and you love him and want him to be a part of the baby's life. I don't knwo if you come frmo a religious home, but I believe that G-d has a plan for everything, and everything happens for a reason, even if you don't totally understand this now. Even this conflict and telling your parents- I can't imagine how hard this is for you, but this is a step for you to assert yourself and show your parents that you are an adult. Also, give your parents time to adjust it all. Good luck Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

I have two sisters also, I am planning on telling them first and see what they think I should do. it is horrible because my sister is having a baby next month and her shower is soon and everyone is so hapy fo her and I know i am going to get the oppisite. I mean my dad will yell, he will not hit me or anything so I just need to be prepared for that and i know my mom will cry a lot and worry I am not going to be able to do it.

Re: if you were me how would you tell..

Please do not worry what anyone thinks of you. You are a strong, courageous person for having to step up and tell your parents some news that from what you saying they won't stomach very well.

I wouldn't tell your sisters before your mom though, what if she tells your mom out of concern for you? The news is better coming from you directly.

I am soo sorry you have to go through thisChat Icon Chat Icon

Getting it over with sooner than later though, you will be better off and can concentrate on a healthy pregnancy.

My advice to you to make the conversation a little easier. Write down the main points you want to touch on, how you want to say it. Or maybe you can write a letter to your parents with all your feelings and the situation and read it aloud to them asking them not to interupt until you are finished, so you can get it all out before they have a chance to freak.

Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon to you. Just be honest quietly sit them down, tell them you have something important to tell them and tell them the story from beginning to end.

I've seen this situation happen to some people i know- and at first it was hard for their parents - but they quickly accepted it and supported their daughter afterwards. Soon after introduce your boyfriend to your parents/family - and have them get to know each other - they can then start getting to know each other better and start establishing a relationship so they can better understand the situation.
