Anyone know someone who teaches upstate?
This is one of the places we are considering moving, however I hear its just as hard to land a job there because of all the colleges. Does anyone know someone who teaches upstate?
I am getting so sick searching for a job, I am just ready to give up. My eyes are tired from looking on the computer and sending out millions of resumes!

I teach in Newburgh and live in Highland NY (Hudson Valley area)
Hate to break it to you but it is just as hard to get a job up here as on LI We have alot of teachers who stay until retirement age....2 years ago my district had a hiring boon (lots of retirees and movers) now, everyone is settled
They are ALWAYS looking for Bi-lingual, Special Ed, and Reading Specialists though

Re: Anyone know someone who teaches upstate?
My cousin teaches upstate and we have this conversation all the time. It is just as hard (if not harder) to find a job upstate. Upstate in a lot of places, the population isn't as dense as it is down here, so 1 school district can cover many, many towns.
In her district also, almost all of the teachers are "lifers", so you need to time it perfectly (and hope there aren't a gazillion subs waiting to pounce) when someone retires.

I am certified in Special Ed and Literacy...
I figured it was just as hard. It seems this way throughout the Northeast.
