Poetry ideas....
Hi girls... I am new to this site from LIW>..
I am a new teacher and just took over a 2nd grade gifted class for a maternity leave. So far this month, we have done Haiku's and Acrostics. Any ideas for something else?

I teach first grade. Here are just some things off the top of my head that I'm doing.
Acrostic
Alphabet
cinquains
limericks
diamante poems
haikus
ideas:
you can make up words
you don't have to rhyme
we'll be writing poems based upon:
feelings
places in school
photographs
Also, Jack Prelutzky has great poems for kids. I do something based upon his Scranimals book.
Shel Silverstein is great for this age, too.
