Re: Formula
You have to use whatever works best for your baby. In LIJ they used Similac, I came home and switched to Good Start - too gassy for my son, I then tried Enfamil Gentlease and it worked wonders for him. No more gas, no more crying & he slept better.

Re: Formula
It really wasn't a preference - it was what the hospital started DD on - Similac
And it agreed with her - not all babies agree with the formula that was given to them at the hospital

Re: Formula
When my DS was in the NICU they started him on Similac Advance. He has been doing great on that so I am not going to change it.

Re: Formula
DS was put on Similac in the hospital. I switched when he was about 2 or 3 weeks old because it was way too gassy for him.

Re: Formula
DD was on formula in hospital and started on Similac- she did well for a while- then started spitting up excessively- thick curdles. I switched to Enfamil Gentlease- and it got a little better- but still tons of spitting up... I recently switched to Enfamil AR and she's doing WAY better

Re: Formula
Michael was on Similac Advanced with Iron because that's what they gave him in the hospital and he was good on that, so I don't have anything to compare it to. I can tell you that I preferred the ready to feed bottles instead of the powder.

Re: Formula
Both of my kids were started on Enfamil Lipil in the hospital and we ended up switching to a different type of Enfamil with each. With DS we had to switch to Enfamil Gentlease and with DD Enfamil Prosobee.

Hospital started her on Enfamil, I tried to switch her to Similac (she threw it up) and is now on Enfamil Nutramigen for a milk protein allergy.

Re: Formula
Our ped. described it as Coke and Pepsi. The same thing, just a different brand.
My daughter was on Similac Advanced with Iron, it was what they started her on at Manhasset and it agreed with her.
My son started out on Similac Advanced as well, but then we moved to Similac Alimentum for a milk protein allergy (the milk proteins are predigested), that didn't completely take care of it so he's on Neocate (for milk allergies).

Yes, my advice is have the dr. test for a milk protein/soy allergy. They can test using a dirty diaper.

Re: Formula
WE used Similac Advance because that is what they gave us as samples in the hospital. She never had a problem wiht it, so that is what we used for 10 months. At 11 months, we started transitioning to milk, so I started to buy the Target brand formula, it was sooo much cheaper!

We had the same problem when Charlie was a few weeks old, so the Dr. switched us from Similac to Enfamil Gentlease and it worked very well. Now I buy the Target brand that "compares to" Gentlease.

Re: Formula
The hospital used Similac and Taylor seems to do ok on it, so ped advised not to switch formula for her unless she starts to have a problem with the Similac

Re: Formula
I started her on Similac since that is what the hospital gave us as samples. She threw it up each time we supplemented with it.
Now we have used Enfimal but she is so gassy, I switched today to the Gentlease. I hope it starts to help her since the gas keeps her from sleeping. She only gets about 6-8 on. as a supplement.
