American Airlines now charging for seat assignments

American Airlines now charges $15.00 per ticket to assist in any seat assignments.

A supervisor at American told me that no waivers will be given. Meeting services will assist currently with cruise line air seat assignments; however, they are under negotiations for possible fees to be charged for this service.

Re: American Airlines now charging for seat assignments

is it that you have to pay to request a seat, or you have to pay a premium for the seat you want?

I had read somewhere a while back-- that an aisle or bulkhead seat would cost 10 to 20 more, etc.

That's ridiculous. That alone would make me not want to fly on AA. I really have so many issues with their customer service. Chat Icon

It's ashaame that I have so many frequent flier miles piled up on that airline.

Re: American Airlines now charging for seat assignments

If they assist you, they will charge you. So if you call AA direct or go to one of their ticket counters they will charge you for seat selection.

If you book it online their are no ticketing fees

I'm in the same boat. I think AA stinks, but I have soo many miles that I keep booking on them. It's a vicious cycle!

I don't understand a surcharge to help a customer when your job is customer service.

Thanks for letting us know so I will know to never fly AA again.

It's a vicious tactic. The agent is doing all the work (imputing the travelers name, creating the record, processing the credit card and issuing the ticket) and this is how they can make a little extra on the deal.
