ETA - I also don't blame you for wanting to walk away should it come to that. It's heartbreaking, I know, but you cannot change anyone. If they don't want to take the help, you need to help and protect yourself.
Thank you for that...you have no idea how much it means to hear that! I dont want to walk away but I feel as though I have no choice anymore its been going on for so many years and I hate to say it but when I dont have much contact with them life seems to be ok but this is killing me anytime there is some kind of blow out it effects me for weeks. (the migraine the other day...I felt like I was going to have a stroke!) My DH cant take it either, he wants to strangle her and he just hugs me when I cry to him about all of it.
Plus to be honest I feel like my parents are even in denial. my dad is a recovered alcoholic and my mothers bro dropped off the face of earth for 15yrs becouse of it. They have a good relationship now (he's been sober for 10yrs) but growing up I never even really knew about him.

Re: does anyone hate their SIL
If your dad is a recovering alcoholic he should NOT be in denial about your brother. You cannot change your brother's ways or his wife's condoning it. Have you tried therapy? Sometimes it helps just to talk it out to a 3rd party. Also, as someone else mentioned although it hurts to see someone you love go through that, the bottom line is, sometimes you just have to walk away and take care of yourself as a priority.
