vacationing with pets
We are getting a puppy this summer and I know I am not going to want to go away without the dog in the future, but I love to go on vacation. Obviously we don't have to worry about this for this summer b/c the dog will be small and we are dedicating our summer to getting to know him and training him. However, we are both teachers and have a great amount of vacation time. Does anyone know of any places to travel to that are dog friendly? thanks for any info!

Re: vacationing with pets
We are planning on taking our dog to Key West in a few years. Our friends have already gone there with their dogs.
There is a dog beach, two dog parks and animals are welcome in most restaurants! They even get their own little bowls with water and food!
This is a pet friendly place we are looking into:

New Hope, PA is very dog friendly as is Cape May, NJ. There are a few books out that let you know great places to take your dog.
You have to keep in mind the size of the dog you are getting. We have a large dog, so our trips are limited to driving distance as I am not putting Misty in cargo. If you get a small dog you can carry it on which makes travelling a lot easier.

Burlington, VT is very dog friendly.
Kimpton Hotel chains welcome dogs with treats and special attention - they are in most major cities.
We did Rt. 7 leafer peeping this past fall with Ebony and stayed at dog-friendlt B&Bs all along the way.
Here's a web site you can use: pet friendly vacations
And another: Dog vacations
When we go far we leave our dog with my cousin - she has 2 young children who love him to pieces. It's like a vacation for my dog too!!

Re: vacationing with pets
down in teh outer banks of NC you can rent beach houses that are "pet friendly". you just pay an extra "pet fee" for cleaning at the end of the week. my parents own a house down there that they rent out and a lot of people bring their dogs down there, they LOVE the beach!
