Hi Risk Pregnancy
Help!!! I'm freaking out. I was just sent to the hi-risk doctor for a fifths disease infection. My regular doctor didnt know what to do. I saw Dr. Jonathan Goldstein in Babylon - he is part of Madonna perinatal. He was amazing and kind and walked me through it all. Then he told me that I needed to go back to my doctor for delivery. Has anyone else used Madonna or Dr. Goldstein?? Good experiences / Bad experiences?? I want to switch to him for the delivery, but I would like to hear if anyone else has anything to say about him/them?
Thanks!!!

Re: Hi Risk Pregnancy
I was there today as a matter of fact.
I go to Madonna 1-2 times a week for other issues, pre term labor , monitoring, etc. I love the babylon office. Lynn and denise the nurses are great, the drs really are awesome too...all of them....I see Mostly Dr. Klein, but Dr. Goldstein is good too.
I dont think any of the dr's deliver though. They are specialists, perinatologists, they deal with your "problem" , but they dont deliver babies like OBGYN's do.
I still see my OB for my visits, I see them at Madonna for my "issues".
Like I said, the babylon office is nice, small and they know all their patients.
No worries!
Also, I know a few people who were exposed to fifths during PG, all of them were 100% fine!

Re: Hi Risk Pregnancy
i go to madonna in mineola. like donna said, the perinatologists there don't deliver. i go 2x a week for monitoring and 1x a week to my regular ob. they always consult with each other.
i don't know the babylon doctors but i feel like the mineola doctor is very conservative and thorough and you will be in good hands, because they will really monitor you closely.
just wanted to wish you well.

Re: Hi Risk Pregnancy
Parvovirus....fifths disease - got it from my neice.
Wouldnt it make sense for them to deliver babies. Wouldnt every woman prefer to have a high risk doctor do the delivery "just in case"?? It cant hurt to be too qualified!!!
Goldstein was just the most compassionate dr i ever saw. No rushing, always time for questions. Made me feel like there were no other patients but me - even told me to call if my DH had any questions when I discussed the visit with him

Re: Hi Risk Pregnancy
I was exposed to Fifth's Disease last week - I am a middle school teacher. Did they check your immunity levels? I am definitely not immune - so I was immediately sent to my OB to listen for heartbeat.
In Fifth's by the time the symptoms appear, the person was contagious 7 - 10 days ago.
Did they say what they are watching for? The effects of Fifth's are usually pretty immediate, which is probably why they are sending you back to your regular OB.

Re: Hi Risk Pregnancy
hemo-something anemia..supposedly the fifths disease can destroy the babys blood cells and cause some problems...but Dr Goldstein told me that is very rare and can be detected early and in time using special sonogram tests. he was very informed and comprehensive. I feel like i am an expert now.

Thanks for the info...I was told to avaid Dr Klein - they called him Dr Doom and Gloom. LOL
OMG, your kidding?
I found him to be the one who freaked me out the LEAST.
He doesnt sweep things under the rug like the rest do. the others wouldnt tell me much, would say things like its normal etc and not like all my questions. Dr. Klein answered all my questions and he never makes me feel worried or scared...I tend to panic a lot, and he always makes me feel comfortable.
I felt like he told me more then the rest....
But I guess everyones different in their opinions....Its How YOU feel with the Dr. That matters.
ETA- no they do not ever deliver, they are not OB's.....They do all the other stuff but you will continue to see your regualr OB for all other pregnancy related matters, they are just there to treat you for that one specific high risk factor.
They cannot deliver b.c they dont have the time to see you for all your PG needs, only the special ones. They have so many patients, that they cant give you individual care like your OB can for daily pregnancy related issues etc...They are highly specialized.
Also-all the Mineola Dr's are the same at the Babylon ones....they take turns in the office.
And I know they are part of Winthrop, when I was in the hospital last week, I saw, Dr. Klein and Dr. McKenzie from Madonna at the Hospital.

Re: Hi Risk Pregnancy
most of these doctors are perinatalogists...they specialize in Babies that are in Utero....just as Neonatalogists specize in preemies and newborns with "issues"...
Look at it this way...you OBGYN is your doctor....the perinatalogist is the babies doctor...if at the point of delivery that the baby needed further specialized care the neonatalogist would take care of the baby...

Re: Hi Risk Pregnancy
Thanks to all the ladies for your help.
I feel much better now, and in better hands.
BTW, after several calls I found out the Madonna docs DO deliver - out of Winthrop, there office is in Garden City - separate from the Madonna offices. I have an appointment this week to change.
Good luck to you all!!!!
